Musical Director The Canadian Military Wives Choir Petawawa is seeking a passionate, dynamic, and community minded Musical Director to lead our choir. Location Petawawa, Ontario Contract Term Contract runs for 1 choir season, with the option for renewal. 2 months notice is required by either party for non-renewal Start date: August 1st, 2026 About the Role The Musical Director plays a key role in shaping the direction and overall experience of the choir. You will lead rehearsals and conduct all performances and support members of all skill levels and foster a welcoming, inclusive workplace. Key Responsibilities Leadership Teach and rehearse musical selections in a supportive, engaging environment Lead weekly rehearsals and performances Help members develop confidence and vocal ability Select soloists when required Planning and Preparation Collaborate with the committee to select appropriate repertoire Source and arrange music in compliance with copyright laws Produce rehearsal recordings and performance tracks as needed Rehearsal and Performance Plan and lead rehearsals tailored to varying musical abilities Assist in rehearsal setup and organization Collaborate on performance programs, setlist and events Participate in concerts, community events and fundraising initiatives Be able to setup/take down sound system, balance sound and operate sound board or willing to learn. Collaboration and Communication Work closely with the Choir Committee on planning and feedback Experience working with choirs or vocal groups (all levels) Ability to create an inclusive, positive, and encouraging environment Organizational and Communication Skills Comfort with digital music tools (recordings, file sharing, etc. Position is self-employed/contract based. Performance reviews conducted during renewal process or as needed. Must align with the choirs’ values and uphold its positive reputation.
