The Emerging Technologies Team Lead is responsible for the development, delivery and evaluation of innovative digital literacy services and technology initiatives. They empower staff and community members to use new digital tools, explore emerging trends to enhance services, and advance equitable access to technology. The Emerging Technologies Team Lead collaborates across departments to ensure responsive, inclusive service and program delivery, and participates as a member of the public services team at Cambridge Public Library’s (CPL) Old Post Office location, including serving as Person In Charge (PIC).
What You’ll Do
Responsibility for program/service delivery (internal/external)
- In consultation with the Location Manager and Manager, Community Engagement and systemwide guidelines, design and deliver inclusive digital literacy programs for diverse audiences of all ages, including instruction in devices, online tools, and emerging technologies.
- In consultation with the Location Manager and the Manager, Community Engagement, coordinates, schedules, plans, organizes and conducts programs including special events as required:
- Leads and guides location staff on the development and implementation of program delivery.
- In consultation with the Location Manager, develops community partnerships and programming specific to the location.
- Prepares content for the website and system wide marketing materials as needed.
- Collects program and other statistics for the location
- Provide in-depth technology assistance to the public supporting a wide range of needs from basic skills to advanced inquiries.
- Develop instructional material and guides for emerging tech software and equipment that supports independent learning by community members and staff.
- Analyze and assess trends and recommend, research and evaluate emerging technologies for public service applications aligned with community needs and CPL’s strategic priorities.
- Act as an internal consultant, advising and assisting staff with technology troubleshooting, digital resources and service support.
- Working with the Queen’s Square Youth Services Librarians, assists in developing and conducting elementary and secondary school visits.
- Answers member questions in person, by telephone or by internet:
- a. General Inquiries.
- b. Catalogue search and use of available reference tools.
- c. Readers Advisory including assisting members to find resources using the library catalogue, electronic databases and the internet and making recommendations to members regarding leisure reading, viewing and listening material.
- d. Instructs members in the use of computers, maker equipment, and/or software for users with all skill levels.
- Responsible for addressing the conduct of members and visitors that violates Cambridge Public Library’s Code of Conduct.
- Performs clerical duties associated with circulation and materials handling. Registers new members and updates membership cards.Project management (planning, producing, implementation, monitoring, reporting)
- Under the direction of the Location Manager and in accordance with supply and programming budgets, orders, tracks and maintains the inventory of supplies and equipment for the Discovery Centre and Creative Studios, as well as general location supplies.
- Undertakes system-wide projects as project coordinator with an emerging technologies focus, both branch specific and system-wide as assigned.
Requirement to adapt, modify, procedures, programs or inform policy development
- Makes recommendations to the Location manager regarding the development of procedures or programs for the Creative Studios and Discovery Centre.
Other duties as required.
- Acts as Person in Charge (PIC) when assigned.
- Participates in and prepares content for location meetings, Program and/or Project Committee meetings, and as appropriate, Youth Services meetings.
- Provides some direction to volunteers.
What You Bring
To be qualified for and successful in the role, you should have:
Required:
- Two (2) years post-secondary degree or diploma in the arts, design, technology or a related field
- Two (2) years prior related public library experience
- Four (4) years prior experience working with the public in a service environment
- Two (2) years related work experience in the instruction and use of creative technologies in either a makerspace or digital media lab
- Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering training or instructional programs to the public as well as to staff.
- Proficient knowledge of current and emerging technologies, including digital tools, Virtual Reality technology, artificial generative intelligence (AGI), audio visual equipment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365/Office software applications, Apple products and Adobe Creative Apps
- Ability to connect with people of all ages and offer hands on assistance.
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Strong critical thinking and problem - solving skills.
- Excellent project coordination skills and ability to complete responsibilities on time.
- A proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact professionally with the public.
- Highly organized and able to carry out job functions with flexibility, creativity and initiative.
- An inclusive and empathetic approach and a service-oriented mindset.
- A passion for supporting the diverse interests and needs of the Cambridge community.

- One (1) year related work experience leading a team

Salary: $65,122 per annum (Level 8 in our salary grid).
Hours: 35 hours in a weekly period
