CUSTOMER TECHNICAL SALES SUPPORT SPECIALIST - Grande Prairie
The Customer Technical Sales Support Specialist is responsible for meeting/exceeding the annual sales goals and targets established by the Director, Grande Prairie.
Establishes strong working relationships with assigned customers and provides ongoing service to help plan, service and support their machining repair and overhaul projects. Develops business through assigned existing customers through regular visits, pick-up and delivery of valves, compressor overhauls (including pistons, packing, wipers, connecting rods, crossheads, valves, volume pockets and associated compressor piece parts), servicing and learning about new internal opportunities and referrals to prospective customers or new sites at existing clients.
Responsibilities:
- Receives business development goals and objectives from the Director, Grande Prairie and prepares a business development plan to meet those goals. Reviews plan with Director, Grande Prairie.
- Develops a plan of proactive interaction with existing and prospective clients to maximize awareness and influence. Initiates & maintains regular contact with all important decision sources within key clients.
- Initiates an introductory meeting and presentation with a prospective client to introduce & present Vulcan as a qualified & prospective service provider – prepares a capabilities overview for review and retention by prospective client. Confirms prospect’s process for qualifying/inviting bidders and awarding contracts/service agreements, and requests introduction to any additional personnel in the firm that will participate in the award of contracts/services agreements.
- Uses the Customer Relationship Management System (CRM) to track all potential and existing clients to automate the sales tracking and reporting process with respect to prospecting, client relationships, forecasts, and other pertinent information to be available to relevant internal parties.
- Ensures that records of all prospects/business development contacts, calls & meetings are entered into CRM system for future reference and for discussion with the Director, Grande Prairie when requested.
- Prepares weekly business development activity reports to evaluate sales effectiveness and progress.
- Working with the Director, Grande Prairie, obtains feedback and direction on activities and results to ensure goals and targets are a high priority focus.
- Provides the Director, Grande Prairie with monthly forecast of expected sales revenue, pending short list opportunities revenue, anticipated RFQ’s and the revenue potential, and opportunities for negotiated/sole-sourcing revenue.
- Solicits feedback from prospective clients on unsuccessful quotations/proposals; determines key reasons for loss of business; reviews with Sales Supervisor.
- Organizes and carries out customer site pick-up of repair or service work, including a purchase order, and delivers to Vulcan shop for Sales Administrator work order preparation. Provides Sales Administrators with all relevant information, including customer name, location, scope of work, part numbers, quantities, etc., as well as requested delivery date.
- Provides customer delivery services to return repaired/new parts to customer’s site, along with relevant paperwork. Secures signed delivery receipts at customer site and returns to Accounting.
- Manages customer’s on-site inventory of parts to facilitate their ease of servicing and on-site repairs. Updates customer inventory counts regularly and ensures accurate labeling of all Vulcan provided parts and assemblies.
- Gathers key information on all customers’ rotating equipment, including manufacturer, frame number, model numbers, etc., and forwards to Sales Administrators for customer file maintenance.
- Reviews customers’ valve repair/replacement records and determines if a valve tailoring solution may be beneficial to customer. Gathers specific information from customer regarding gas analysis, engineered curve on equipment setup, operating conditions (RPM/gas pressures/temperatures for each stage/volume-pocket settings/etc.). Provides data to Sales Administrators for recommended solutions.
- Presents valve tailoring solution to customers and requests approval to proceed and adopt recommendations.
- Assists the Director, Grande Prarie in the review and development of consistent, best of class marketing materials for Vulcan business development/client management activities.
- Participates in networking, promotional events and trade show opportunities from a business development perspective and actively follow up on leads; reports back to Director, Grande Prairie on business potential from these venues.
- Provides timely response to customer/prospect Request For Quotations or budget pricing, submits request to Sales Administrators for development of estimates and quotations.
- Discusses quotations with Director, Grande Prairie prior to submission to customer/prospect to ensure appropriate margin and reflect the level of competition on the quotation.
- Delivers quotations to customer/prospect after approval by the Sales Supervisor, initiates follow-up to determine customers decision. Solicits feedback on quotation status and reasons if awarded to another supplier.
- Meets with Director, Grande Prairie to discuss established sales goals and performance to those goals weekly.
- Establishes weekly/monthly call schedule to ensure proper coverage of key customers, as well as identified time for “cold calls” to develop new business.
- Schedules visits to existing customers to discuss Vulcan service levels, quality performance, opportunities to perform other work, resolve service issues, and maintains detailed CRM customer files for each.
- Continually looking for recent sales prospects through referrals from existing customers, additional needs of existing customers, and building new relationships with neighbouring facilities of current customers.
- In conjunction with Sales Administrators, assists in resolving customer issues related to quality issues, late deliveries, etc.
- Provides feedback to Director,
Grande Prairie relative to their sales territory development to ensure sales coverage is maximized, and productive travel is scheduled.
- Requests approval from Director, Grande Prairie on reduced margin sales.
- Supports Accounting Department with follow-up on slow to pay accounts.
- Represents Vulcan at industry trade shows and events, including setting up and manning the trade booth.
- Participates in the organization and facilitation of client appreciation and development activities.
- Participates in industry associations to keep informed of industry trends, emerging technologies, as well as to network with manufacturers and customers.
- Participates when requested in the orientation, training and mentoring for all new Department staff.
- Attends company safety meetings and maintains current certifications for H2S, First Aid, Dangerous Goods transportation, WHMIS, etc.
- Demonstrates a culture of resolving all customer complaints in a professional manner, seeking to find a resolution that meets the best interests of both the customer and Vulcan.
- Recommends Director, Grande Prairie or President attend specific customer or prospect meetings periodically to assist with sales closure.
- Provides Director, Grande Prairie with monthly expense reports for approval

· Has an interest in developing and demonstrating technical knowledge and skillfulness with tasks and responsibilities.
· General understanding or interest in mechanical procedures is considered an asset.
Qualifications:
· Education: High school diploma.
· Knowledge: Driver's licence with clean abstract required. Technical knowledge and experience with gas compression and pump components an asset.
· Work Experience: 5+ years prior work experience in a customer service / field driver role with demonstrated understanding of customer service and working to tight timelines.
· Skills: Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail. Written and verbal communication skills. Mechanical Aptitude. Problem solving skills. Ability to work under tight deadlines.

Job Type: Full-time, Salaried + Commission (NOTE: Range includes forecasted commission)
Regular Work Schedule (please note below):
· 8-hour shift (5 days on, 2 off)
· Day shift (8AM – 5PM)
· Monday to Friday plus on-call on some evenings and weekends
· Willingness to work overtime and weekends as required, and mandatory participation in an on-call schedule encompassing some evenings and weekends.
