Manitoba Parks is seeking a qualified individual to fill a Park Works Supervisor 3 (PK3) position. This position is located in Paint Lake Provincial Park in Northern Manitoba, approximately 20 minutes south of the city of Thompson.
Duties:
Working under the direction of the Park District Manager (PDM), the incumbent is responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation and supervision of maintenance, operations and construction activities within Paint Lake Provincial Park, as well as Pisew Falls, and occasionally other Provincial Parks within the Region. The incumbent responsibilities may include: operation and/or maintenance of transient campsites found within 2 campgrounds approximately 190 sites; operation and/or maintenance of 6 yurts, water and wastewater systems, garbage/recycling program, buildings, roads, a shop for minor mechanical repairs and carpentry projects, winter and summer recreation areas which includes snowmobile, x-country ski and ATV/UTV trails, hiking trails, canoe routes, beaches, day/group use areas, and boat launches.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- Experience planning, organizing, and supervising construction or infrastructure projects.
- Experience supervising and leading staff including scheduling, performance management, training and direction.
- Experience providing cost estimates, working with financial budgets, purchasing and inventory control.
- Robust interpersonal skills with the ability to cooperate and effectively work with staff, user groups and stakeholders.
- Ability to solve problems and make sound decisions.
- Experience working independently with the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize a complex workload with strict deadlines.
- Experience maintaining park, commercial or municipal facilities (such as roads, beaches, campgrounds, day use areas, portable water systems, public buildings, ground maintenance and recreational areas).
- Experience and/or training in Workplace Safety and Health and safe work practices.
- Experience operating, maintaining, and repairing equipment (such as 1/2 ton trucks, tractors, ride on mowers, ATV's, outboard motors, snowmobiles and other small and heavy equipment).
- Strong verbal communication skills.
Desired:
- Experience with water treatment, testing, and distribution.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office or similar computer applications.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess and maintain a valid full stage Manitoba Class 5 driver’s licence
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties assigned to the position including lifting up to 23 kgs and standing for long periods
- Must be willing and able to work evenings, weekends, statutory holidays and shift work
- Must be able to work outdoors for extended periods of time under various weather conditions
