Who we are looking for:
The South Markham Community Action Table (SMCAT), co-led by ACSA and Senior Services Network (SSN), is seeking a dynamic and community-oriented individual who is closely linked to or resides in the City of Markham to support the South-Central Markham community and residents. This individual will work closely with the South Markham team to make connections with residents and stakeholders to better connect South Markham communities to information, resources and opportunities in the local priorities of Mental Health & Mental Well-Being and Housing Stability. This work involves initiating and supporting activities, events and platforms where residents and community members naturally gather using community engagement and outreach tools and methods.

About the role:
· General engagement and outreach to local residents, community leaders and grassroots groups in the South-Central Markham neighbourhoods to facilitate community networking and sharing of resources and knowledge, prioritizing Mental Health & Mental Well-Being and Housing Stability
· Facilitate ongoing conversations and meetings to uncover local initiatives, opportunities, and potential Resident Leaders for the South Markham CAT.
· Observe and assess community needs and capacity-building opportunities to inform CAT initiatives, documenting meetings, community activities, and initiatives (e.g., photos, notes, recordings).
· Support Project Assistant in identifying community leaders, resident-led events, and local opportunities for communication through newsletters, surveys, and social media.
· Identify synergies and collaboration opportunities with other networks, tables, and initiatives.
· Attend trainings, team meetings, and community events as required.
· Must be available for some evening and weekend work, as required.
· Other duties as identified by ACSA, SSN and the South Markham CAT that support the overarching project work to move forward.
About you:
· Experience (including professional, community and lived experiences) and or education in Community Development, Social Services, Education, Mental Health, Housing or related fields
· Knowledge of and experience related to South-Central Markham, particularly volunteering or working with agencies and residents in York Region
· Familiarity with the priorities of mental health, mental well-being and/or housing stability
· Experience working at a grassroots level in a community, engaging with local groups (I.e. advocacy groups, hobbyist groups, parent committees, senior forums, youth groups, etc.)
· Experience and/or rapport working with current local groups and clear understanding of the South-Central Markham community pulse
· Familiarity with computer and digital skills (I.e. Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, Social Media platforms, etc.)
· Familiarity with facilitation of presentations, workshops, capacity building sessions and meetings
· Ability to take meeting minutes, transcribe conversations and keep notes
· Ability to work in a fast paced environment and quickly adapt to the evolving needs of the community and project
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take own initiative
· Ability to work collaboratively in team environments and facilitate collaborative work
· Comfortable in a mobile position that will work from multiple positions and in the community with reliable internet connection for any work from home
· Flexible schedule with the availability to work evenings and weekends
· Second language is an asset (particularly Mandarin, Cantonese, Tamil, Urdu, Punjabi)
· Must provide an up-to-date vulnerable sector check
