Type of Employment: part time (4:00 - 7:00 p.m.)

REPORTS TO: Extended Learning Program Director

The After-School Academic Enrichment program staff is responsible for designing lessons, activities and field experiences in their assigned Extended Learning Program area. Additionally, student monitoring, safety and enrichment are at the foundation of the work done with the students. Leaders will enhance our scholars’ academic understanding and inspire dreams by creating and leading a specific enrichment program, one that will relate to our curriculum and our focus on arts and/or technology.

The Ellington Academy Extended Learning Program staff must:

- Instructors must be nurturing, mature,



responsible and fun-loving individuals who love to share their passion with children and youth.
- Include activities that are engaging and fun.
- Address the multiple needs, interests, abilities and talents of children and youth.
- Establish a system wherein students feel ownership of the program and feel comfortable exchanging ideas and sharing.
- Apply basic youth development principles in working with students through communication, relationship development, and respect for diversity, involvement and empowerment.
- Balance a student's natural inquisitiveness and playfulness, enabling them to learn new skills and understand new concepts. Projects should have clear boundaries, but lots of possibilities.
- Ensure that performing arts activities in general are non-competitive and encourage the creativity and growth of all campers.
- When not teaching classes, instructors help out around extended learning program as needed.
- Lead or assist in final student Individualized Learning Planning and program activities as assigned by the Program Director.
- Be a role model and build appropriate relationships with the campers and staff with your attitude and behavior.
- Collaborate with Tutors and Paraprofessionals to ensure that daily class objectives are reached.
- Ensure enrichment goals are met for each scholar.



Literacy and Math should be integrated into your academic enrichment curriculum.
- Supervise scholars during guest speaker engagements, field trips, supper and hall monitoring.
- Prepare and organize scholars to demonstrate mastery of their new enrichment skills in a presentation to parents, school, community and administrators and their peers.

Education and Experience:

- Two plus years of experience developing and facilitating curriculum in a specific subject area of instruction for Elementary or Middle school age children.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to individuals specific needs.
- Demonstrated ability to use & integrate arts and technology in classroom and project instruction.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to differences and changes in characteristics of students, programs, leadership, staff and community.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize wide-ranging teaching methodologies to accommodate students' unique learning styles.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate tests and measurements of achievement.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.
- Demonstrated ability to responsibility contributes to an innovative environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of technology, including using performance management tools.
- Demonstrated accountability for student achievement.
- Demonstrated understanding of standards based, performing arts and technology curriculum related to their discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a classroom of 20 scholars.
- Required Criminal history background check.
