Position Summary
The Recreation Worker is a member of the multidisciplinary team and is responsible for implementing recreation therapy and leisure programs and services supporting quality of life at the Four Seasons Lodge. They provide group, one-to-one and / or self-directed activities which the resident wishes to participate in, considering resident-specific needs, conditions, history, risks, behaviours, and preferences.
The Recreational Worker plans, implements and evaluates recreation programs for the diversified members of the client population using quantifiable, measurable objectives and timeframes.
Position Relationships
Reporting to the Manager of Clinical Services – Director of Care, the Recreation Worker works in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Team and within established reporting structures. Collaborates regularly with nursing staff and interacts with residents, staff, volunteers, and members of the general public.
Duties:
- Develops, organizes, delivers, evaluates and monitors the implementation of recreation and programs according to the needs and desires of the residents.
- Works as a member of the team, communicates effectively, and observes and reports changes in resident condition to the Registered Practical Nurse.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures.
- Supports and demonstrates the mission, vision and values of the organization.
- Other duties may be assigned and may not be limited to the scope of an individual department.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university, or be enrolled in a community college or university diploma or degree program in such a field required.
- Completion of a food safety awareness program recognized by a Public Health Unit preferred.
- A certificate in Gerontology is preferred.
- Smart Serve certification is preferred.
- DementiAbility training preferred.
- Montessori Methods for Dementia training preferred.
- Gentle Persuasive Approach certification preferred.
- Experience in long-term care setting preferred.
- Therapeutic verbal and written communication skills required.
- Ability to work well with others in a team approach, and adapt to changing situations required.
- Computer literacy required.
- Exceptional Attendance required.
- Must agree to adhere to the standards of behaviour of the organization.
- Ability to maintain staff, patient and resident confidentiality.
