The Role
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Station Maintenance Co-op Student for a 4-month term from May to August. Reporting to the Stations Supervisor, this position will support the team with a variety of projects. Responsibilities will be aligned with the trainee’s level of experience, and duties may include testing, installing, and maintaining equipment in substations, as well as cable testing and fault locating of underground plant. This position provides an opportunity to gain practical experience, learn from skilled professionals, and contribute to the success of the department and the organization.
What You Will Do
- Work in compliance with all protected work practices, rules and regulations as set out by Burlington Hydro Inc., the MOL and IHSA
- Perform duties in a safe and efficient manner
- Learn to operate equipment and tools used in the day-to-day work
- Learn how to test and maintain transformers; mechanical and/or electrical testing/troubleshooting of breakers, protective devices, batteries and chargers
- Learn how to install and maintain AC and DC substation service systems; locate underground cables; test and fault locate on underground distribution plant
- Assist with drawings and diagrams using AutoCAD; assist in collecting data and maintenance records
- All other duties as assigned
What We Are Looking For
- 2nd or 3rd year Engineering student enrolled and in good standing in the Technologist program
- Knowledge of ethernet and communication networks is an asset
- Knowledge of programming and using database programs is an asset
- Must possess a valid G Class Ontario Driver’s License in good standing
- Knowledge of AutoCAD is an asset
- Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification is an asset
What You’ll Need to Be Successful
- Keen interest in the electrician discipline, including the underground distribution system
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including reading comprehension, as well as excellent mathematical skills
- Excellent interpersonal and customer relations skills; a good work ethic with a positive approach to work closely in a team setting with co-workers; energetic and motivated with an excellent attendance record
