Salary: $31 to $33 per hour
Hours: 35 hours per week

The Opportunity
We are seeking a passionate and committed Coordinator, Burnaby Youth Custody Centre to join our innovative team and make a meaningful difference in our community. This position reports to the Youth Program Director.
This position involves working in a stressful environment and frequently dealing with clientele in crisis situations. The ability to function independently and frequently under pressure is an ongoing expectation of this position. Direct delivery of program activities may require a moderate level of physical fitness such as walking, standing, bending, and lifting to effectively carry out the duties of the position.
In this role, You Will
Provide direction and supervision to Purpose Society employees working at the Youth Custody Centre and ensure that services described in service contracts are delivered and evaluated. Services include individual assessments, education, individual counselling, educational and psychosocial groups and assisting youth to transition back to their communities.
Along with other employees of the Society, the person appointed to this position is expected to adhere to the Society’s Policies and Procedures and all ancillary guidelines and manuals.
What You’ll Do
- Ensure that the programs and services described in any service contract between Purpose and the Burnaby Youth Custody Centre or any other organizations are offered.
- Direct and supervise other members of the Burnaby Youth Custody Centre team on a daily basis and ensure their duties as outlined in their job descriptions are being carried out.
- Design and implement the development and evaluation of programs and services and include the service delivery team in this, and facilitate client participation in evaluation activities.
- Maintain necessary client and program reports and statistics, ensure that all required documentation is accurate, complete, and meets professional standards.
- Offer training to front-line workers on developments in alcohol and drug services.
- Plan and organize the collection of data necessary to evaluate the program, address client satisfaction and needs, satisfy the reporting requirements of the Burnaby Youth Custody Centre and the Purpose Society.
- Identify social, economic, recreational, and educational services in the community that will meet clients’ needs. Maintain liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials, and the community.
- Make referrals to other organizations when appropriate.
- Design and deliver various educational and psychosocial groups to youth residents of the institution.
- Undertake assessments, provide individual counselling, provide information and referral to youth residents of the institution.
- Ensure that all files are organized and maintained according to professional standards and the standards required by the Purpose Society.
- Train and/or supervise practicum students or volunteers to assist with program delivery and work with clients.
- Perform other duties as required.
What We Are Looking For
- Degree or diploma in social services or in the area of alcohol and drugs, or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- At least two years’ direct program delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of alcohol and drugs based programs and related provincial and community support is preferred.
- At least two years’ experience working with high-risk youth.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of theory, principles and practices in alcohol and drug programs.
- Proficient group facilitation and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Strong resourcing and advocacy skills.
- Access to a vehicle may be required
