Overview
Mi'kmaw Cultural Foundation is seeking a passionate, community-minded individual to join our team as a Youth Coordinator. This is a newly created position designed to support the growing need for culturally grounded youth programming in our communities. The successful candidate will lead the development and delivery of engaging programs for children and youth, with a strong focus on outdoor play, land-based learning, Mi’kmaw culture, and community connection.
Position Details
- Location: Stephenville, NL
- Term: June 1, 2026 – May 31, 2027 (12-Month Contract)
- Hours: 35 hours per week
- Wage: $27.50 per hour
About the Role
The Youth Coordinator will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering programming for children and youth (ages 0–18). Programming will emphasize:
- Outdoor and land-based play
- Mi’kmaw cultural teachings and activities
- Youth leadership and engagement
- Community wellness and inclusion
- Family and intergenerational participation
The position will also support community partnerships with schools, Indigenous organizations, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and local service providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement regular youth programming
- Facilitate outdoor recreation and land-based learning opportunities
- Organize culturally relevant activities rooted in Mi’kmaw knowledge
- Engage youth, families, caregivers, and Elders in programming
- Identify and reduce barriers to participation, including transportation and accessibility
- Coordinate schedules, supplies, and community partnerships
- Monitor participation and evaluate program outcomes
- Prepare reports and maintain program documentation
Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience working with children and youth
- Background in recreation, education, community development, social work, or related fields
- Knowledge of Indigenous culture and community-based programming
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Experience facilitating outdoor or land-based activities is considered an asset
- Understanding of trauma-informed and inclusive approaches to programming
