Health PEI is seeking Nurse Practitioners to join multi-disciplinary teams across Prince Edward Island, with opportunities in Primary Care, Home Care, Long Term Care, Acute Care, and Mental Health and Addictions. Duties will include:
- Perform comprehensive, focused health assessments including a health history and physical examination using a holistic framework and multiple assessment techniques relevant to a client’s stage of development, culture and health.
- Analyze client symptoms and assessment data by applying the principles of pathophysiology, pathogenesis, epidemiology, demographics and relevant research; determine the need for, order, and interpret the results of relevant screening & diagnostic tests; discuss with and involve clients in decision making regarding their health, and in taking responsibility for their health.
- Systematically compare and contrast clinical, behavioral and diagnostic data to determine differential and working diagnosis.
- Provide direct guidance and counseling on health promotion and illness prevention strategies in accordance with client health status and needs, participate in the overall evaluation of the practice setting’s programs and services.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and community members to identify client population health needs and resources, and provide input as requested for community health programs.
- Ensure professional standards and clinical competence are reflected in all educational content taught by Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioners, and are demonstrated by nursing staff in the work unit and performing,
- This position may be required to work evenings and weekends,
- Other related duties as required.
What you’ll bring:
- Active or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses and Midwives of Prince Edward Island.
- Have a Master’s Degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner or Graduation from or Completed the Requirements to Graduate from an Approved and recognized Nurse Practitioner Program.
- Critical thinking proficiency to assess, analyze, diagnose, select treatment, evaluate, and refer patients with common acute or chronic health conditions, or for health promotion/illness prevention.
- Good previous work and attendance record.
What we offer:
Salary: Ranging From$57.94/hour (NP Step-1) To $65.59/ hour (NP Step- 6)

Recruitment Incentives:
The Department of Health and Wellness offers several incentive programs for external candidates who are hired into eligible positions. Incentives may be stacked if the candidate and position meet all eligibility criteria. Additionally, relocation assistance may be available at the discretion of the Health PEI Hiring Manager for permanent hard-to-recruit positions.
Nurse Practitioner Recruitment Incentive
- $8,000 for Nurse Practitioners with less than 24 months of experience.
- $18,000 for Nurse Practitioners with more than 24 months of experience.
Rural Incentive
- $5,000 for eligible positions outside of Charlottetown
Student Loan Incentive
- Up to $8,000 for positions within Charlottetown
- NP must have federal student loans and does not qualify for the Canada Loan Forgiveness Program due to their work location.
Canada Student Loan Forgiveness
- Up to $30,000 (over a maximum of 5 years) could be available for NPs working in a rural area. This is a federal program.
