Shared Practice - Family Physician Opportunity

Position Overview
We are seeking a Family Physician to join a collaborative and flexible primary care practice in Nelson, British Columbia. This opportunity offers a blended rural family medicine scope, including longitudinal primary care, shared inpatient responsibilities, and participation in a rotating Doctor-of-the-Day hospital schedule.

The position is ideal for physician seeking:
A practice-share environment with one other physician - both sharing one patient panel
A team-based clinic environment
Flexibility in scheduling (including shared practice options)
Opportunities for leadership involvement
Optional focused practice interests such as functional medicine

This role is open and can be structured as part time or full-time (approx. 0.5–0.8 FTE) or expanded depending on physician preference.

Practice Details
Practice structure and logistics
Clinic hours typically 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Lunch break 12:00 – 1:00 pm
Shared physician coverage model
Alternating physician presence in clinic
Approximate 2–3 clinic days per week, with flexibility to include a virtual care day
Opportunity for some virtual care from home
City parkade parking available nearby (~$8/day)

Hospital and shared coverage responsibilities
Participation in shared inpatient coverage at Kootenay Lake Hospital
Approximately 1–5 inpatient days per 12-week rotation, depending on interest and availability
Participation in shared Doctor-of-the-Day responsibilities
Cross-coverage provided among physicians to support scheduling flexibility and time away

Practice environment
Flexible scheduling structure, including part-time practice options
Collaborative shared-practice panel model
Supportive physician cross-coverage for vacation and leave
Optional opportunity to participate in functional medicine clinic time (up to twice weekly)
Vacation scheduling arranged collaboratively within the physician group

The clinic supports a collaborative shared-practice structure with flexibility to tailor scope depending on physician interests and preferred balance between clinic and hospital responsibilities.

Team & Support Staff
Physicians work alongside:
Registered Nurse (RN)
Social Worker (SW)
Occupational Therapist (OT)
Clinical Manager
Experienced administrative team

The clinic also participates in the Kootenay Boundary Primary Care Network, supporting interdisciplinary care delivery.

Compensation & Compensation Type
Physicians are supported through the Longitudinal Family Physician (LFP) Payment Model or Fee-for-Service (FFS), depending on preference and practice structure.





Estimated annual income range:
$250,000 – $400,000 depending on FTE and schedule preferences

This position is well suited to physicians seeking a flexible practice structure with shared responsibilities and opportunities to tailor scope of practice over time.

Income varies based on clinic days worked, participation in hospital rotations, and optional additional services.

Overhead structure:
(To be confirmed — typical Nelson clinics range approx. 25–30%)

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
Hold (or be eligible for) certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) or equivalent
Be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC)
Be comfortable participating in a shared inpatient coverage rotation at Kootenay Lake Hospital

Support is available to assist with CPSBC licensing processes and regional onboarding coordination where needed.
