This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Baker Lake Reporting to the Dean, Education, Inuit and University Studies, the Chair, Nunavut Teacher Education Program (NTEP) is responsible for the planning, direction, management, delivery, administration, and evaluation of the Certificate and Diploma credentials embedded within the Nunavut Teacher Education Program.

This includes campus-based and community-based education programming, as well as professional development programming for teachers and education support staff across Nunavut.

The Nunavut Teacher Education Program (NTEP), delivered in partnership with an accredited university, prepares Nunavummiut to become classroom teachers in Nunavut schools. The Chair plays a critical leadership role in ensuring programming is culturally grounded, academically rigorous, and responsive to the needs of Nunavut communities, while reflecting Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ).

As a member of the College’s Management Team, the Chair contributes to strategic planning and college-wide initiatives and operates within a highly decentralized workplace, managing staff, programs, and resources across multiple communities.

The ideal candidate will possess a Degree in Education or Education Administration,
with a Master’s degree in a related field considered a strong asset. The successful candidate will have five years of progressive experience in an educational setting, including experience in program delivery, curriculum development, instructional leadership, and financial and human resource management, along with a minimum of two years of supervisory experience.

Professional teaching credentials are a definite asset. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills are essential, as is the ability to develop business cases, manage budgets, and work collaboratively with internal and external partners, including university partners.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.
