About the Organization
nThe Nunavut Housing Corporation is an agency of the Government of Nunavut that serves the housing needs of one of the fastest-growing and youngest populations in Canada. NHC’s mandate is to create, coordinate, and administer housing programs in order to provide fair access to a range of affordable housing options to families and individuals in Nunavut. NHC has recently launched The Nunavut 3000 Strategy, (www.igluliuqatigiingniq.ca) which is a collaboration between the government and its partners to deliver 3,000 new units across the housing continuum by 2030.n
About the Opportunity
nThe Nunavut Housing Corporation is looking for a full-time District Comptroller based in Arviat, Nunavut.nReporting to the District Director, you will play a crucial financial and administrative leadership role. Your dual responsibilities include supporting the financial operations of the District Office and overseeing the financial affairs of the Local Housing Organizations (LHOs). By managing the District Office's finances and human resources, you contribute significantly to our strategic financial planning and operational efficiency, ensuring our assets are judiciously managed and our financial reporting meets the highest standards of efficacy and compliance.n
Your key responsibilities will include:

- Managing financial, administrative,
and human resources operations for the District Office
n
- Providing financial oversight, monitoring, and support to Local Housing Organizations (LHOs)
n
- Developing and negotiating budgets to secure required financial resources
n
- Collaborating with executive management to ensure expenditures align with approved budgets and policies
n
- Ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and legislative requirements
n
- Preparing and delivering accurate financial reports to District and Directorate Offices
n
- Monitoring and evaluating financial performance and identifying areas for improvement
n
- Managing and safeguarding District Office assets in a fiduciary capacity
n
- Supporting strategic financial planning and decision-making processes
n
- Advising on financial policies, procedures, and best practices
n
- Supervising and guiding administrative and accounting staff
n
- Assisting LHOs with financial management, reporting, and accountability processes
n
nThis role offers the unique chance to impact the financial stewardship and operational success of Nunavut's housing strategies, all while experiencing the rich cultural and natural landscapes of Canada’s North.n
About You
nTo qualify,
you should possess a CPA designation coupled with a minimum of five years in business or accounting and two years in a supervisory capacity within an administrative or accounting context.nAdditionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:n

- Experience working in a northern or cross-cultural environment
n
- Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
n
- Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages (Inuktut, English, or French)
n
- Familiarity with public sector financial management practices
n
- Experience supporting or working with community-based organizations
n
- Understanding of housing programs or social services delivery
n
