Utility Worker I (SLCC) Job Locations CA-BC-Shawnigan Lake Competition Number 23196-E Closing Date 1/26/2024 Type Casual Department Community Services Division Facilities & Transit Location: Name Shawnigan Lake Community Centre General Information The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for casual Utility Worker I opportunities at the Shawnigan Lake Community Centre within the Facilities & Transit Division.

Reporting to the Manager Facility Operations (South Cowichan), the Utility Worker I (SLCC) performs maintenance and repairs of the facilities, grounds and equipment to ensure that Shawnigan Lake Community Centre facilities operate efficiently and effectively.

Working independently this position also: performs cleaning routines, provides setup and takedown for functions; advises the Utility Worker II if supplies and parts inventories need replenishing; may assist with complex projects; and, may work with specialized contractors.

Qualifications Secondary School graduation and training in a trade or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

One (1)



year of experience performing cleaning routines and working in a trade and/or performing facility and equipment maintenance and repairs including plumbing repairs and minor electrical troubleshooting.

Experience working in a recreation facility is preferred. WHMIS Certificate provided by employer First Aid, Level 1 with CPR Valid Class 5 BC Drivers License Click to view the full qualifcaions for this position.

Hours of Work This is a casual, on-call opportunity with no guaranteed hours of work.

Shifts are based on the operational needs of the facility.

The successful candidate must be able to work a variety of hours and shifts, including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and short-notice shifts.

Salary This casual opportunity is unionized (CUPE Local 358) and is compensated at $27.97 per hour (2023 rate) plus an additional 14.5% in lieu of perks, vacation and statutory holidays.
