We are currently accepting applications for English Language Learner (ELL) Instructor. Under the supervision of the Principal and under the direction of the classroom teacher(s), the English Language Learner (ELL) Instructor is responsible for the provision of support to students trying to acquire English language skills within the school. The ELL Instructor supports teachers and other professional staff by instructing individuals and groups of students in an academic and/or integrated class environment, supporting social and academic integration as well as assisting the teacher with classroom management, when required.

The Instructor works collaboratively within a team environment and assists the classroom teacher or LRT in the implementation of learning assessments (e.g. STEP) and individual educational plans.

Qualifications and Experience:
n
n
- A two- year college diploma in child studies or a related educational field is required.
n
- Previous English Second Language instruction is preferred.
n
- Related employment or volunteer experience in teaching, social work or immigration services is an asset.
n
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
n
- TESL qualifications are an asset.
n

- Attends regularly scheduled UCDSB professional development activities for ELL Instructors.
n
- Maintains a safe and non-threatening working and learning environment.

- Works as part of the education team to identify short term and long-term goals for students.
n
- Supervises and instructs students both in a one on one and in a classroom environment.
n
- Works with the teacher to provide feedback for parent-teacher interviews.
n
- Reaffirms information to students regarding appropriate classroom and school behaviour such as social skills and problem-solving skills.
n
- Encourages learners to develop positive attitudes towards education and appreciation of lifelong learning.
n
- Maintains student classroom portfolios, as required and assists keeping absent students current with learning activities.
n
- Assists teaching staff with the assessment of student language acquisition and may provide input for the evaluation of courses and student progress (e.g. providing feedback to students).
n
- Assists ELL students with the completion of assignments and reviews homework by checking on completion, correctness and understanding of instruction.
