Erin Mills Youth Centre (EMYC) is a youth-driven organization working at a grassroots, community level to promote the development of youth along with their families and communities. In particular, EMYC supports and empowers youth to advocate for themselves and their community in order to create a brighter future.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Supervisor Recreational Leader, the Recreational Leader is responsible for organizing, and managing recreational activities that promote healthy lifestyle for all community residents at the Ridgeway Community Courts. Recreational leaders will provide inclusive, fun, clean and safe opportunities for community, sport and recreation activities at the Ridgeway Community Courts. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, along with exceptional organizational and time management skills. Job functions listed are not all- inclusive.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engage youth and residents in recreational programming through the facilitation of fun and safe sports activities.
- Communicate with community members to determine their needs and interests.
- Interact with staff, participants, parents/caregivers and other community members/agencies to provide program information.
- Ensure the Ridgeway Community Courts are maintained in order to ensure a safe, clean and appropriate environment for recreation activities.
- Ensure that recreation equipment are maintained, operated, and stored appropriately.
- Respond to and manage incidents, emergencies, parent/caregiver concerns, and conflict situations in line with EMYC policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all facility policies and procedures are communicated to and followed by staff and participants.
- Attend and participate in required Erin Mills Youth Centre meetings and training sessions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated competency in youth engagement, program planning and facilitation
- Ability to create and deliver engaging, innovative and fun recreation and sport activities
- Solid organization skills
- Demonstrated group work, conflict resolution and problem solving
- Knowledge of the Peel Region community and local organizations
- Ability to work from an anti-oppressive and anti-racist framework
ASSETS:
- Knowledge and skills using social media (Instagram, and TikTok)
- Current certification in First Aid & CPR
- ASIST Training, Mental Health First AID, High Five Certification.
Occupational Health & Safety Responsibilities and Duties
- Works in a safe manner in accordance with EMYCs health and safety policies and procedures and all relevant legislation.
Job Type: Fixed term contract
Pay: $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 16 per week
