ABOUT THE ROLE
- The Child & Youth Worker will report to the Lead, Youth Justice Services and support youth across Rebounds Youth Homelessness and Youth Justice programs by connecting them to housing and community supports and delivering skill-building activities. This role will contribute to individualized plans, clear documentation, and strong collaboration with families and community partners focusing promoting youth voice and empowerment in decision-making processes.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with the Youth Homeless and Youth Justice teams to implement programs, supports and resources for youth.
- Support youth experiencing housing challenges to access housing programs, shelters, and transitional living supports.
- Monitor progress and provide ongoing support to maintain housing stability.
- Work with the Youth Justice Services team to plan and deliver educational and skill building activities.
- Develop individualized support plans based on youth needs and goals.
- Maintain accurate documentation and progress reports.
- Liaise with community partners and conduct outreach activities across the County.
- Support staff to get Rebounds Youth Advisory Committee implemented.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
To be eligible to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program, you must:
- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
- be currently enrolled in a secondary or post-secondary institution, and planning to return there in the fall;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada
The successful candidate will also meet the following criteria:
- Be pursuing a post-secondary degree/diploma in Child & Youth work, Social Services or related field.
- Interest in working with marginalized youth.
- Knowledge of social determents of health impact youth and families.
LOCATION & COMMITMENTS
- Hours of Work:
Flexibility in work hours will be required to best serve youth populations including ability to work weekends/evenings for purposes of program delivery and attendance at activities and events where necessary.
- Location of work: Staff will be working 700 D’Arcy Street in Cobourg.
- Travel: Candidates should be prepared to travel and attend outreach events/initiatives where necessary across Northumberland County.
