EQUIPMENT MANAGER – JOB DESCRIPTION

Cobourg Cougars Junior A Hockey Club (OJHL)
Location: Cobourg, Ontario
Position Type: Seasonal (Hockey Season + Playoffs)

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Cobourg Cougars are seeking a reliable, organized, and detail-oriented Equipment Manager to support all day-to-day hockey operations.

This role is critical to ensuring a professional, efficient, and player-focused environment, both at home and on the road. The Equipment Manager works closely with the Head Coach & General Manager, and all hockey operations staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Equipment Operations

- Maintain all team equipment in safe and game-ready condition
- Track and manage inventory of all issued equipment
- Repair helmets, gloves, pads, and protective gear as needed
- Ensure proper cleanliness and sanitation of all equipment

Skate Sharpening & Maintenance

- Perform regular skate sharpening for players
- Maintain sharpening equipment and tools
- Ensure all players have properly prepared skates for games and practices

Game Day Operations

- Prepare dressing room prior to games and practices
- Set up player stalls, jerseys, and equipment
- Sweep and prepare team benches before all games
- Ensure water bottles, towels, and repair kits are ready
- Support bench operations during games as needed

Laundry & Dressing Room Management

- Manage all team laundry (jerseys, socks, towels, practice gear)
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional dressing room
- Ensure all equipment is properly dried and stored

Travel & Logistics

- Pack and organize all equipment for road trips
- Load and unload team equipment




- Assist with dressing room setup at away facilities
- Ensure all equipment returns safely post-travel

Team Events & Camps

- Prepare and manage equipment for camps, practices, and team events
- Support staff with logistical needs during events

PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT

The Equipment Manager is expected to represent the Cobourg Cougars organization with professionalism at all times.

This includes:

- Positive and respectful interaction with players, staff, billets, and community members
- Maintaining a strong work ethic and team-first attitude
- Supporting a positive locker room culture

QUALIFICATIONS

- Previous experience in hockey operations or equipment management (preferred)
- Robust organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work long and flexible hours (including evenings, weekends, and travel)
- Basic knowledge of hockey equipment repair and maintenance
- Experience with skate sharpening is considered a strong asset

WORKING CONDITIONS

- Fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Requires lifting and transporting equipment
- Travel required for road games on team bus
- Game-day and practice availability required

COMPENSATION

Compensation will be discussed based on experience and availability.
Additional considerations may include team apparel, meals, and travel accommodations.
