The Admas Lake Indian Band is seeking a Senior Accountant. The individual will be responsible for overseeing complex financial accounting and financial reporting, developing policy and ensuring compliance with established standards. The Senior Accountant will also mentor other staff to contribute to a continuous learning environment.
This position will play a vital role in ALIB’s overall financial planning and reporting accuracy by delivering key insights and ensuring adherence to compliance requirements. Additionally, will lead interim and year end audit activities and advise on opportunities for process improvements. A key focus will be researching technical accounting standards and making recommendations to leadership, creating and maintain continuity schedules, and performing and/or reviewing reconciliations across various accounts.
This position will be integral in supporting the implementation of a new accounting system and in driving the modernization of many key processes across the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Adams Lake Indian Band policies and procedures
- Organizes and manages month end and year end close. Leads preparation of complex reporting, reconciliations and journal entries across all funds
- Develops external year end financial statements, reports and schedules for internal management, external compliance, and financial audits and analyzes financial results and trends to support planning, forecasting, and risk identification
- Ensures compliance with financial transaction recording standards, tax requirements, and regulatory obligations
- Advises and leads improvements to systems, controls, and reporting processes to enhance accounting efficiency and accuracy
- Leads the resolution of complex financial transaction accounting and/or issue resolution, working collaboratively and effectively with other teams/departments
- Any other tasks as required.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field and CPA designation (or equivalent)
- Minimum five years of accounting experience in an indigenous, not-for-profit or public sector experience are desirable, however, willing to consider public practice or industry
- Advanced knowledge of accounting standards, reconciliations, and compliance reporting
- Experience preparing audit-ready schedules and supporting external reporting requirements
- Proficiency in ERP systems, reporting tools, and financial analytics
- Knowledge of consolidation, cash flow reporting, and budget processes
- Experience with ERP systems implementation considered an asset
- Knowledge of federal and provincial legislation applicable to Indigenous communities.
- Understanding of Federal Employment Standards and Human Rights legislation.
- Ability to adapt to changing software environments and applications.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight reporting deadlines.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and Teams; experience with accounting systems such as Adagio, Sage 300, Power Query functions or similar is considered an asset.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee and support; Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, as appropriate, and provide back up to the CFO as required.

Those normally associated with a typical office environment. Continuous visual concentration on computer and/or laptop.

Most of the work duties will be performed in a typical office environment.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Full time permanent position
Salary range between $81,700.00 - $122,500.00, to be determined based on education and experience.
Location: 6453 Hillcrest Road, Chase BC V0E 1M0 - on site in Chase.
Hours per week: 75 hours biweekly (max 37.5 hrs./week),
