mistral Site Services (MSS) is rapidly growing to service the numerous projects under development from within the mistral Group with projects ranging from site servicing, deep excavation, excavation, and backfill to landscaping all done within MSS.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Landscape Manager, the Landscape Labourer is responsible for supporting the efficient and safe completion of landscaping projects by performing a variety of physical and manual tasks. The Labourer will assist with softscape and hardscape installation, operate basic landscaping tools and equipment, handle materials, and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Landscape Installation and Site Work
1.1 Load, unload, and move soil, aggregates, plants, sod, and other landscape materials.
1.2 Assist with installation of softscape features including planting trees, shrubs, and perennials, laying sod, and spreading mulch.
1.3 Support hardscape tasks such as installing patios, walkways, retaining walls and driveways.
1.4 Operate basic hand tools and landscape equipment safely and effectively (e.g., skid steer, mini-excavator, plate temper, saws, lawnmowers, trimmers).
1.5 Help with setting up and dismantling work areas, temporary fencing,
and site access controls.
2. Site Maintenance
2.1 Perform general site cleanup, including sweeping, removing debris, and organizing tools and materials.
2.2 Ensure proper storage and handling of tools, materials, and equipment.
2.3 Maintain a tidy and hazard-free worksite to support operational efficiency.
3. General Site Support
3.1 Assist the landscape team and equipment operators by supplying materials and performing supportive tasks.
3.2 Follow details instructions to complete assigned tasks efficiently and to project specifications.
3.3 Assist with site preparation (excavation, grading, base prep, compaction) and execution of daily tasks.
4. Other
4.1. Works in a safe manner and ensures department operations are carried out in a safe manner in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, associated regulations, Mistral Group of Companies’ policies, procedures, and other associated legislation.
4.2. Other related duties, as assigned.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
Education
- Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
License, Registration and Training
- Valid and unrestricted Class “G” driver’s license with “AR” endorsement and access to reliable transportation and the ability to travel to various work locations.
- Current WHMIS and First Aid/CPR certification and other relevant safety training.
Experience
- Two (2) years of landscape construction and hardscape experience.
- Previous experience in construction, manufacturing, or similar physical labour environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic understanding of workplace health and safety regulations.
- Familiarity with tools, equipment, and materials used in labour-related work.
- Knowledge of proper lifting and material handling techniques.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks accurately and efficiently.
- Solid organizational and time management skills.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills.
- Basic problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Physically capable to lifting, carrying, and moving heavy materials.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Able to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Work independently or as part of a team with minimal supervision.
