Operations and Maintenance Coordinator

Location: East Hants Sportsplex, Lantz, NS

The East Hants Sportsplex is looking for an Operations and Maintenance Coordinator to oversee the maintenance activities of the facility and ice plant as per the Technical Safety Act and Power Engineer Regulations of Nova Scotia. The coordinator will supervise a team of facility operators and ice technicians and ensure all building systems—preventative maintenance software, building automation, ice plant/refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, security, and fire suppression—run safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

- Oversee maintenance activities of the facility and ice plant in compliance with relevant regulations.
- Supervise a team of facility operators and ice technicians.
- Manage building systems, preventative maintenance software, and building automation.
- Ensure proper operation of ice plant, refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, security, and fire suppression systems.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and other maintenance documentation.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent plus a one‑year certificate in a related field such as mechanical, facilities management, building systems, or electronics.
- Fourth Class Power Engineer with a valid NS Department of Labour 2nd Class Refrigeration License.
- Demonstrated experience in team leadership.




- Five years of relevant technical experience in ice plant operations.
- Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems and automated or computerized control systems.
- Experience developing Standard Operating Procedures, Safe Work Practices, and related documentation.
- Arena Operator Level 1 certification or willingness to obtain.
- Experience in building maintenance, heating, ventilation, or air conditioning is a plus.
- Customer‑service orientation and ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to work a rotating schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Clean criminal records check and child abuse registry check.
- Understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in a customer‑focused environment.

Annual salary: $67,684.00 — $84,604.00
