About The Team Aurora's design team is composed of five product designers tackling some of the hardest systems‑level problems in residential and commercial solar. The team embodies a strong collaborative ethos as it partners with engineering and product peers from discovery to delivery, valuing a customer‑first mentality, iterative exploration, and peer design critiques to elevate quality while supporting strategic business priorities.
About The Role As Head of Design, you will lead the design of the products that 7,000+ solar professionals rely on daily. You will grow the team by setting clear goals, giving sharp feedback, and creating the conditions for designers to do the best work of their careers. You will partner with Product, Engineering, and the rest of the company to ensure our solutions reflect a real understanding of customers and maintain a high bar for craft. The roadmap you help shape will determine how quickly the solar industry can move and how well it serves homeowners and businesses making the switch.
Your Impact
Lead, develop, and mentor a high‑performing team of product designers, and champion their work across the company
Define KPIs that show the team is moving company‑wide OKRs, then deliver against them
Partner with Product, Engineering, and Go‑to‑Market to ship solutions that drive real value for our customers
Evolve Aurora's design operations by incorporating industry best practices, exploring and adopting high‑value changes,
including those driven by AI capabilities
Integrate research into how we work so we continuously test, learn, and discover what users actually need
Define and drive design processes, tools, and infrastructure that make agile product development successful
What You Bring
12+ years in product design, user experience design, or a related field
5+ years building design teams and cultures that ship technical SaaS products. You are motivated by developing the next generation of design leaders, showing them what great looks like, and coaching them through increasingly complex problems
Exceptional communication skills with a track record of bringing clarity to complex topics for cross‑functional partners
Demonstrated ability to define a product vision, gain alignment on it, and carry it across audiences from engineers to executives
Deep experience shipping complex tools, design systems, and multi‑role products across web, iOS, and/or Android

What We Offer

Parental Leave – 16 weeks with 100% base salary + gradual return to work
WFH Stipend – An initial $675 CAD (Non‑engineers) or $1000 CAD (Engineering roles)
Coworking Stipend – $400 CAD per month if you prefer to be at a coworking facility near you

Connectivity Stipend – Up to $125 CAD per month toward internet or phone expenses
Learning & Development – $970 CAD per year to use toward professional development (requires 90 days of employment to receive)

Compensation Philosophy At Aurora Solar, we foster an exceptional work environment through inclusiveness and transparency. Our pay ranges are anchored to the median of the market for companies of our size and industry. Our base pay ranges in each zone are:
Tier 1: Toronto, Vancouver – CAD $225,600–$281,400
Tier 2: All Other CA Locations – CAD $205,100–$255,900
