JOB OVERVIEW + OBJECTIVES

We are looking for a Kitchen Assistant who is as strong in character as they are in the kitchen. Reporting to our Kitchen Manager, you will help prepare and serve meals for a medium-to-high volume residential community, support food safety standards, assist with inventory, and help guide resident volunteers’ men who are themselves in different stages of recovery. This is not a back-of-house job where you clock in and disappear. You will be seen, known, and valued and the work you do will matter every single day.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

- Assist with food preparation for large groups and special events
- Support inventory management and organized food stock
- Help train and supervise resident volunteers in the kitchen
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness and Food Protected standards
- Receive, unpack, and store supplies appropriately
- Complete daily and weekly prep sheets guided by the weekly menu
- Hold a clear, real-time picture of all moving parts prep timelines, volunteer tasks, stock levels, and service readiness and proactively close gaps before they become problems
- Exercise high discretion in all situations, particularly when working alongside men in recovery knowing when to act, when to defer, and how to handle sensitive moments with confidentiality and genuine care

QUALIFICATIONS

- Food Safe certified (current or easily renewable)
- Commercial kitchen experience is an asset
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent communication & discernment skills
- Experience with systems of large quantity cooking
- Thrive in a fast-paced workplace

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00-$25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 32 per week
