About Us

At Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides (LFCDG), we help people with disabilities live more independent lives by providing them with a Dog Guide at no cost. We are proud to be the only school in Canada offering seven distinct Dog Guide programs. Our operations span two locations: Oakville, ON, and Breslau, ON.

The Opportunity

The Puppy Nursery Attendant plays a key role in maintaining a high standard of care for all breeding dogs and puppies at our Breslau breeding facility. This is a hands-on, physically demanding position that involves cleaning, feeding, monitoring health and behaviour, and supporting whelping and neonatal care. You will work closely with the breeding program team to ensure the wellbeing of every dog in our care.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide daily care for dogs and puppies in the puppy nursery.
- Assist with kennel maintenance. This includes disposing of dog feces, scrubbing and drying kennel areas.
- Handling dogs appropriately in all situations following advice from other attendants and the supervisor.
- Bathing, grooming, feeding, and exercising dogs and puppies.
- Checking dog's health and administering treatments, medications.
- Monitoring the behaviour of the dogs in their care including monitoring for signs of stress and any behaviour issues that need to be addressed.
- Maintain records of dogs' behaviour, health, and any other issues while living in the nursery.
- Help handle dogs who are being checked by vet advisor or supervisor.
- Assist with breeding management, whelping and neonatal care.
- Provide enrichment, socialization and basic training to dog moms and puppies.

Qualifications & Skills

- Knowledge and understanding of dog care needs, canine health and diseases and basic veterinary care.
- Previous experience with breeding,



whelping, or neonatal care is considered an asset.
- Ability to effectively administer dog health treatments.
- Knowledge and understanding of small animal husbandry.
- Knowledge of environmental enrichment programs to maintain good mental health in all dogs in their care.
- Good dog handling skills, especially with larger breed dogs and groups of dogs.
- Ability to perform various health and care procedures such as grooming, bathing, basic health checks and nail trimming.
- Knowledge of dog nutrition and weight maintenance.
- Positive understanding of dog behaviour.
- Professional, compassionate and understanding when working with both people (staff, vets, volunteers and the general public) and dogs.
- Physical stamina to handle large dogs, heavy loads (dog food, etc.).
- Flexibility with work hours: the attendants will be required to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Valid G driver’s licence with a clean abstract and reliable transportation

Position Details

- Location: Breslau, ON
- Rate: $17.60 hourly/ 35 hours per week
- Contract: Summer full time employment (June 1- August 28)
