Summary

We are seeking a skilled Estimating Manager to join our team in Canada. Based in Lindsay, this role is vital in overseeing project cost estimations, managing client relationships, and ensuring accurate bidding processes to support our company's growth and success.
GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

The Manager of Engineering is responsible for ensuring that work is assigned and completed to meet established sales, engineering and manufacturing schedules and satisfy customer requirements. The incumbent must evaluate the risks associated with each job and ensure that those risks are addressed in the bid process. This role is also accountable for the budgeting process and managing a team that could be made up of Drafters, Engineers, Estimators and Quality personnel. It is essential that clear and accurate communication is driven through this role, ensuring that all appropriate departments work together to achieve the ultimate estimation to manufacturing process.

NATURE AND SCOPE

Details of Position

· Ensure that all work is done safely, adhering to the company safety creed.

· Ensure staff efficiently and cost effectively design precast products, including the review and sealing of shop drawings by appropriate Managers of the department to satisfy the customer, while meeting project schedules and constraints.

· Ensure the team provides production and construction reviews of projects and certifies to CSA Standards to ensure overall accuracy of design and safety of completed projects.

· Ensure the team provides technical assistance to plant for repairs and/or unforeseen site conditions, which require immediate resolution. Address technical issues when serious problems arise.

· Ensure the team provides preliminary designs, alternate proposals, design feasibility checks and material requirements for estimating and sales departments to accurately prepare bids and to promote the use of precast concrete in the construction industry.

· Provide expert advice to the design engineering team, as required.

· Develop a strong team of Drafters, Engineers, Estimators and Quality staff through rigorous recruiting, skills assessment and ongoing mentoring of current staff

· Develop solid working relationships with customers to ensure a positive customer experience.





· Ensure members of the team review contract drawings and revisions for changes in the estimated scope of work.

· Ensure all parties are aware of any issues with drawings, estimates or the engineering process. Ensure the right people are involved at the right time.

· Maintain a consistent focus on accuracy, detail, productivity and cost effectiveness in all projects and processes.

· Organize, schedule, co-ordinate and ensure a team member checks the accuracy of drawings output by the drafting team, on all major projects.

· Attend pre-construction meetings with sales staff to review project specifications and timelines.

· Develop project quality control plans with production and effectively communicate them.

· Monitor quality performance to contract requirements, prepare non-conference reports and work with project CA’s to resolve NCR’s. Recommend and prepare repair procedures and submit for approval.

· Implement and develop quality control program and systems.

· Ensure plant is CSA/CPCQA compliant. Provide oversite to QC staff for CPCQA audits and work with production staff to respond to CPCQA NCR’s.

· Monitor performance of QC program and opportunities to improve the program and product quality.

· Be a leader for new technologies and new production processes.

This position reports to:

Operations Manager

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/CHALLENGES

· Actively take a leadership role in the Health and Safety program

· Ensure all pertinent information is provided to production and installation prior to tender closings – ensure all rates are current and valid

· Coordinate with management, production and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness and customer demands

· Forecast operating costs of the departments and prepare budgets

· Estimate man power, schedule completion dates, monitor progress and evaluate results; helps to ensure that the project is on time and on budget

· Analyze technical trends, human resource needs and market demands in order to plan projects appropriately

· Directs preparation of new or revised drawings





· Ensure the team reviews specifications and finished work and documents required for production

FUNCTIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

· Must be able to read and understand blueprints

· Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc.), Outlook, MS Project, and Infor would be an asset. Working knowledge of Auto CAD.

· Analytical approach and detail oriented

· Exceptional time management and organizational skills

· Experience managing diverse teams would be an asset

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering

· Professional Engineering designation (PEng)

· 5 - 7 years’ experience in Construction, Manufacturing or a Production based setting along with Engineering, Drafting or Estimating experience
