Position Overview The Downtown Grimsby BIA is seeking a Downtown Ambassador (Student) to support communication, business engagement, and coordination between downtown businesses, the Town of Grimsby, and the Grimsby Chamber of Commerce during the Downtown Reimagined construction project.

This role will act as a central point of contact for downtown businesses, helping ensure that information about construction timelines, access, parking, and project updates is communicated clearly and consistently. The Downtown Ambassador will help gather business feedback, support downtown events, assist with marketing initiatives, and promote local businesses during the construction period.

While the position is an employee of the Downtown Grimsby BIA, the role will work closely alongside Town of Grimsby staff and the Chamber of Commerce through a team-oriented secondment-style arrangement to ensure coordinated communication and support for businesses.
n
The ideal candidate is approachable, organized, proactive, and comfortable engaging directly with business owners, municipal staff, and members of the public.
n
Key ResponsibilitiesConstruction Communication & Business Liaison
n
n
- Serve as a primary point of contact for downtown businesses regarding the Downtown Reimagined construction project.
n
- Communicate construction updates, timelines, parking information, and access changes to businesses.
n
- Conduct regular in-person visits to businesses to provide updates and answer questions.
n
- Collect and document business concerns, operational challenges, and feedback related to construction impacts.
n
- Relay information and concerns to BIA staff, Town of Grimsby staff, and project teams.
n
nBusiness Engagement & Economic Development Supportnn
- Conduct regular check-ins with downtown businesses to understand economic conditions and challenges.
n
- Support business outreach and engagement initiatives led by the BIA.
n
- Help connect businesses with resources, programs, and promotional opportunities available through the BIA, Town, or Chamber of Commerce.
n
- Assist in gathering business feedback and economic data that may help inform future downtown initiatives.
n
nCollaboration with Town of Grimsby & Chamber of Commercenn
- Work closely with Town of Grimsby staff to help communicate construction updates to the business community.
n
- Support collaboration between municipal departments, contractors, and downtown businesses.
n
- Assist the Grimsby Chamber of Commerce in sharing relevant business programs and information.
n
- Participate in coordination meetings or stakeholder briefings when required.
n
nEvent & Community Activation Supportnn
- Assist with downtown events and activations organized by the BIA.
n
- Help coordinate event logistics, vendor communication, and on-site support.
n
- Promote events and activities directly to downtown businesses.
n
- Assist with set-up, coordination, and engagement activities during community events.
n
nMarketing & Communications Supportnn
- Assist with distributing construction updates, newsletters, and information materials to businesses.
n
- Support downtown marketing campaigns and promotional initiatives.
n
- Help gather content for social media, newsletters, and marketing materials highlighting downtown businesses and activities.
n
- Assist with communicating Downtown Reimagined project updates to the business community.
n
nPublic Information & Visitor Supportnn
- Act as a visible and approachable presence in the downtown area.
n
- Answer questions from businesses, residents, and visitors about:
n
- Construction updates
n
- Downtown events
n
- Parking and access
n
- Local businesses and services
n
- Help maintain a positive visitor experience in the downtown during construction.
n
nAdditional Duties The Downtown Ambassador may also assist with:nn
- Distributing marketing materials and event posters to businesses
n
- Supporting downtown beautification or placemaking initiatives
n
- Assisting with temporary signage or wayfinding during construction
n
- Supporting data collection, surveys, and business outreach initiatives
n
- Identifying opportunities to support business visibility and foot traffic during construction
n
nEligibility RequirementsnThis position is grant-funded and applicants must meet the following criteria:n
n
- Must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution.
n
- Must be returning to full-time post-secondary studies in Fall 2026.
n
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or legally entitled to work in Canada.
n
- Must be legally eligible to work in Ontario.
