Creative Kids Education Centre (CKEC) is a licensed private educational institution located in Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia. We provide high-quality toddler, preschool, before & after school child care, and day camp programs for children aged 18 months to 12 years. Our center operates year-round, including offering engaging camps during March break and throughout the summer. We are dedicated to fostering a nurturing and creative environment where children can grow, learn, and thrive.

Creative Kids Education Centre is seeking a Forest School Practitioner to lead and support our outdoor, play-based learning program. This role is ideal for an educator who is confident outdoors in all seasons, skilled in child-led learning, and able to balance risk with safety in a regulated childcare setting.

This is not a passive supervision role. We are looking for someone who can plan, lead, and adapt outdoor experiences while maintaining strong awareness of licensing requirements and group dynamics.

Full-time, Monday–Friday with a set shift

Key Responsibilities

- Plan and implement emergent, inquiry-based outdoor experiences aligned with Forest School principles
- Support children in risk-taking, problem-solving, and resilience-building through real-world experiences
- Use the environment as the primary teaching tool (seasonal changes, loose parts, nature-based materials)
- Document learning through observations, photos, and reflective practice

Supervision & Safety

- Maintain active supervision at all times, especially in dynamic outdoor environments
- Conduct daily risk assessments of outdoor spaces




- Ensure compliance with Nova Scotia Child Care Regulations, including ratios, attendance tracking, and emergency procedures
- Support children with diverse needs, including behavioural and developmental differences
- Work closely within a classroom team to align indoor and outdoor learning
- Communicate clearly with team members to ensure smooth transitions and consistent expectations
- Participate in team meetings, coaching, and ongoing professional development

Family Communication

- Share children’s experiences and learning with families in a clear, professional manner
- Support families in understanding the value of outdoor and risk-based play

Qualifications

- ECE Level 1, 2, or 3
- Minimum 1–2 years experience working with children in a group setting
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions year-round
- Strong understanding of child development and behaviour guidance
- First Aid & CPR (current)
- Training or certification in Forest School, Outdoor Education, or Nature-Based Learning an asset
- Wage aligned with Nova Scotia ECE Wage Scale: $25.61 - $32.19/hour (based on classification and experience)
- Supportive team environment with a focus on growth and skill-building
