Safety Specialist

Contract Length: 7 Monthsn

Location: Blind River, Ontario

Ideal candidate would be local to the Blind River area or willing to relocate to accommodate a Monday to Thursday schedule.

Description

The Safety Specialist in this role is a critical member of the Construction Management Team (CMT), responsible for ensuring that all construction activities align with the organizations Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) requirements. This role focuses on the proactive identification of hazardous conditions, the implementation of safe work procedures, and the promotion of a high-performance safety culture through behavioral observations and rigorous site inspections.n

Responsibilities

- Ensures or construction activities comply with the organizations safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ) requirements and monitors daily activities to identify hazardous conditions and implementation of safe work procedures
- Work closely with construction management team (CMT) and contractors
- Responsible for ensuring all safety, health and environmental procedures and work instructions are followed
- Conduct workplace inspections with CMT, focusing on behavioural observations
- Reviews field level risk assessments (FLRAs) and daily contact cards for quality adherence
- May conduct and monitor SHEQ related training for construction management team (CMT) personnel and contractors and assess qualifications of construction contractor personnel
- Participate in job hazard assessments, safety meetings, toolbox meetings, constructability reviews, project kick-off meetings, upon request
- Conducts daily and weekly job site inspections as per procedure




- Identifies and reviews various health and safety concerns specific to the work site
- Investigates injuries, accidents and near misses as per site corrective action processes
- Ensure timely notification occurs of significant events
- Monitors quality of incident investigations and ensures effective and appropriate corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner

Qualifications

- 4 to 10+ years of dedicated safety experience within heavy industrial or construction environments
- Previous experience working on large-scale industrial projects, preferably within the mining, utility, or energy sectors
- Proficiency in formal incident investigation methodologies (e.g., TapRoot, Five Whys, or RCA).
- Expert-level ability to facilitate Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs) and evaluate the quality of FLRAs.
- Robust working knowledge of provincial and federal occupational health and safety (OHS) regulations.
- Deep understanding of integrated Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality frameworks.
- Education and Certifications
- A degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), Environmental Science, or a related technical/engineering field preferred
- Certification: Construction Safety Officer (CSO) designation is required

- As this is a safety Sensitive Role Pre-access substance testing will be required
