Role Overview

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations within a production facility. This role ensures financial integrity, regulatory compliance, cost control, and accurate reporting in a highly regulated environment governed by Health Canada and applicable provincial authorities.

The Controller will lead accounting functions, manage internal controls, support operational leadership, and provide strategic financial insight to drive profitability and sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities

- Oversee all accounting operations including AP, AR, payroll, inventory accounting as well as others as designated.

- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

- Lead month-end and year-end close processes.

- Maintain financial records aligned with cannabis-specific tracking systems

- Support internal and external audits, including regulatory audits.

- Manage production cost accounting, including cultivation, extraction, packaging, and distribution.

- Monitor and analyze cost of goods sold (COGS).

- Ensure accurate inventory valuation and reconciliation in coordination with operations and QA.

- Implement controls around high-value cannabis inventory and excise stamp tracking.

- Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, and financial models.

- Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures.

- Ensure segregation of duties and financial safeguards.

- Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.





- Provide variance analysis and financial performance reporting to senior leadership.

- Ensure compliance with reporting requirements under the Cannabis Act.

- Supervise and mentor other finance staff.

- Partner with cultivation, production, QA, and supply chain teams to align financial strategy with operational performance.

- Oversee excise duty reporting and remittances to the Canada Revenue Agency.

- Maintain compliance with corporate governance standards.

- Support strategic initiatives including expansion, capital investment, and system implementation.

- Provide financial insight for pricing, margin optimization, and product line analysis.

Qualifications & Experience

- CPA designation (required).

- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within cannabis, manufacturing, agriculture, or other regulated industries.

- Strong knowledge of inventory accounting and cost accounting in a production environment.

- Deep understanding of excise tax and regulatory reporting.

- Experience managing audits and regulatory inspections.

Please note this is a 5 day a week in office role. There will be no remote or hybrid work available.

Job Type: Full time

Pay: $90,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
