Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) is a federal program committed to help young people gain employment information, skills and experience. This program aims to support young people, particularly those from communities facing barriers to employment, as they transition into the labour market.

The CSJ Addiction and Mental Health Worker Perform duties and responsibilities consistent with providing a psychosocial environment to assist with the rehabilitation and community integration of individuals experiencing mental illness, including duties and responsibilities specific to Strathroy Site’s Community Wellness Programs (CWP).

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:
n
n
- What you'll be making - $17.60 per hour
n
- When you'll work - This position is 35 hours per week for approximately 8 weeks. Must be available to work shifts between the hours of 8:30am to 4:30pm. Schedule will be predominately Monday to Friday, but some after-hours, weekend or public holiday shifts may be required
n
- Your pension plan - Immediately eligible for optional enrolment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
n
nHOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE:n
n
- Assist direct-service staff in the planning,
development and facilitation of leisure and life-skills programs for the rehabilitation and community integration of individuals experiencing mental illness
n
- Support and encourage client participation in leisure and life-skills programs
n
- Facilitate social interaction among clients
n
- Assist with organizing and facilitating special events
n
- As a group project, assist with the development and implementation of specific project / program to enhance the activities to clients in the community
n
- Assist with compiling of daily attendance sheets
n
- Identify, assess and report to identified supervisory staff, any emergency situations concerning person(s) or property, as per CMHA TVAMHS procedures
n
- Complete all documentation as prescribed in CMHA TVAMHS policies and procedures
n
nWHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:n
n
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements
n
- Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 5 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

nWe require the following qualifications:n
n
- Canada Summer Jobs requirements:n
- Will be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
n
- Are a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
n
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and am legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
n
- (Note: International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.)
n
n
n
- Post-secondary education completed or in progress within social services, mental health and/or addictions
n
- Current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
n
- Ability to attend work regularly
n
nWe prefer the following qualifications:n

- First Aid/CPR
n
- Experience working with people with mental illness
n
- Experience working in Therapeutic Recreation field
n
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures
n
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing needs and circumstances
n
- Knowledge of secure food handling procedures
n
- Demonstrated ability to defuse potential conflict situations
n
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
n
- Effective communication skills with diverse populations
n
- Good working knowledge of computer office technology such as word-processing, spreadsheets, database records, internet and e-mail resources, etc. and ability to perform basic financial and documentation requirements related to activities and
