Reporting to the Manager of Health, Safety and Wellness, the Health & Safety Specialist will assist, identify, evaluate, develop, implement and monitor the Corporation''s Health & Safety system to ensure it is consistent with legislated Health and Safety Standards.
The Health & Safety Specialist must be familiar with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations and Workplace Safety Insurance Act to assist with all aspects of health and safety in the municipal environment, including training, incident investigations, providing advice and guidance to all levels of the organization.
The position also provides back-up on reporting requirements to the Workplace Safety Insurance Board.
The successful candidate will assist in developing programs and delivering training for all staff with regard to health and safety initiatives and programs.
Qualifications Candidates must have successfully completed secondary school plus post-secondary training or the equivalent, with emphasis in Occupational Health and Safety Candidates should have one (1) to two (2) years previous related experience in a multi-faceted unionized environment Municipal experience is an asset Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal and customer service skills are essential Candidates must have the ability to work independently in a team environment and can handle multiple priorities and deadlines Excellent knowledge of MS Office software and strong written and oral communication skills are required Possess a valid ''G'' Ontario driver''s license in good standing during the course of employment and access to own transportation to travel between corporate facilities As a condition of employment, proof of current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications will be required.
