Field Director
Wage: $36-$46/hour
Location: Based out of our Richmond, Kamloops, and Victoria offices, with fieldwork primarily across southern British Columbia

Position Overview
This role involves a combination of fieldwork and office/lab responsibilities. As a Field Director, you will lead archaeological field programs, contribute to reporting and analysis, and apply professional judgment in a range of project contexts.
You will work both independently and as part of a team, supporting project delivery while mentoring junior staff and contributing to high-quality archaeological work across British Columbia.
This position provides the opportunity to continue developing your expertise while taking on increasing responsibility in project execution, reporting, and decision-making under permit.
This is a field-based role requiring travel throughout British Columbia, with travel, accommodations, and living-out expenses covered by Terra. Work is conducted in a range of terrain and weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities
Include, but are not limited to:
Field Leadership & Project Execution
- Lead archaeological field crews and oversee field programs
- Participate in all aspects of archaeological surveys and excavations
- Apply professional judgment in the field to support project decision-making
Reporting & Professional Responsibilities
- Author and contribute to archaeological reports
- Assist with artifact analysis and curation
- Ensure work is conducted in accordance with regulatory requirements and permit conditions
Mentorship & Team Support
- Mentor junior staff
- Support skill development across field, office, and lab settings
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Archaeology or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in consulting archaeology in BC
- Field Director designation from the Archaeology Branch
- In-depth knowledge of BC archaeology and the Heritage Conservation Act
- Robust report writing skills
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean record
- Ability to work in varying terrain and weather conditions
- Willingness to travel and work throughout the province
Work Conditions
- Working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions for extended periods (up to 12-hour days)
- Frequent standing, walking/hiking, bending, kneeling, and lifting
