Responsibilities

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Provides supervision and guidance to monitors, technicians, servicepersons, tradespersons and external contractors assigned to capital and maintenance projects in order to ensure effective, safe operation and functions of capital projects for the Asset Integration Office in BCRTC.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Supervises day and night crews assigned to capital or maintenance projects on a rotating basis in coordination with AIO Manager and Specialists, Engineering and Maintenance Duty Managers, and maintenance supervisors. Defines and monitors staff performance levels and results, works with AIO staff to ensure monitors are properly informed, scheduled and assigned to respective projects; assigns work when there is no capital related work scheduled. Addresses issues that arise in the field by applying professional judgement and consulting with Engineering and Maintenance Duty Managers, and maintenance shift supervisors.

Performs full scope of supervisory responsibilities according to corporate policies, procedures and standards including authorizing overtime, vacation and leaves of absence, identifying and recommending training requirements, holding regular and ad hoc staff meetings. Manages staff complaints and concerns in an expeditious, fair and respectful manner, and participates in disciplinary and grievance processes as required.

Ensures the work is in compliance with corporate, departmental,



safety and other regulating policies, codes and standards. Performs general safety audits at construction sites to ensure compliance with regulations, policies and best practices, and completes reports for concerns and issues, in consultation with BCRTC Safety department. Works with contractor staff to ensure secure work environment and adherence to approved work plan. Authorizes necessary occupancy permits and Permission to Work requests. Ensures all necessary tools and equipment for scheduled works are available in stock, planned and authorized for use, and in place for deployment.

Recommends and participates in the development of policies, procedures and forms, both routine and emergency, relating to scheduled and unscheduled capital and maintenance projects. Develops proper procedures to monitor outside construction adjacent to SkyTrain properties that may have an impact on the system. Participates in the preparation of departmental budget and business plan.

Leads or participates in various committees and meetings. Responds to emergency incidents, prepares reports on incidents and participates in debriefing meetings, as required.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Requirements for this position are acquired through completion of a diploma in Construction Management or a related discipline from a post-secondary institute and construction site safety training courses. Documented successful completion of applicable and appropriate supervisory skills training from an accredited institution is also required.

Requires five (5) years of directly related relevant experience in supervision/management of rail maintenance and/or capital projects involving a unionized workforce.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Advanced decision-making skills to respond, assess and react to a variety of operational and emergency situations

Excellent communications skills, both written and oral.

Solid teamwork and interpersonal skills, including negotiations and conflict resolution skills.

Solid analytical and problem solving skills.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Solid leadership, development and team building skills to provide direction to reporting staff.

Experience relating to mechanical,



electrical and electronic sub-systems would be an asset.

Solid computer skills in standard office tools including word processing and spreadsheet software and use of web-based systems.

Requires shift work.

Other Information

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

This is primarily a night shift position and may involve weekend shifts. Occasional coverage of day shifts may be required based on operational needs.

Work Schedule

37.5 hours per week.

This position works predominately on-site.

Rate of Pay

The salary for this position ranges from $84,480 - $126,720 per annum. Actual salary offered will be based on education, experience, skills, and qualifications as they relate to the role.
