Description

Undergraduate Programs in the Werklund School of Education at the University of Calgary invites applications for term certain Sessional Instructor positions for Summer 2026.

Position Requirements:

- A completed doctorate in education, but professionals with a master's degree will also be considered
- Five years of successful teaching experience at the elementary/secondary level preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with school and community members
- Ability to work effectively with groups of students in on-campus or in online settings
- Ability to participate in team meetings related to the course(s)
- Ability to encourage and foster an environment of inquiry and valuing of evidence-informed practice
- Demonstrated history of ongoing professional development
- Recent experience as a partner teacher or school liaison preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of the undergraduate program in Education, and commitment to inquiry-based teaching and learning will also be considered assets

Successful applicants must be available for the full duration of the course. Teaching schedules vary and may include daytime and evening shifts, Monday through Friday.

- Any previous EDUC courses taught
- If you are/will be a current Werklund graduate student during the term of hire

Remuneration is calculated according to the Collective Agreement, Schedule B. Please see the Faculty Association's website at https://www.tucfa.com/ for further information regarding conditions of employment and remuneration. As per the Collective Agreement, the Werklund School of Education will adhere to the right of first refusal terms (Section 23.12.1 and 23.12.2) for Sessional Appointments.

Summer 2026 Courses of Instruction

Summer 2026 EDUC classes will take place from July 6th to 17th, as a summer intensive.



Please note that there may be asynchronous components required outside of these two weeks.

EDUC 427.04: K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics [In-Person]

An introduction to key elements of STEM Education, including curriculum, pedagogy, standards and assessment. Participants will learn how to engage students and integrate STEM topics across all subject areas.

EDUC 460: Specialization I [In-Person]

Introduction on enacting pedagogy in each of the teachable subject areas in the program and pedagogical content knowledge in each area. Includes disciplinary ways of knowing, doing and being; understanding the Alberta Programs of Study; short-term design of learning for deep understanding of learners.

Note: EDUC 460 is a decimalized course, divided by teachable subject area. Summer 2026 courses include:

- EDUC 460.05 combined with 460.14: Elementary and Secondary French
- EDUC 460.20 combined with 460.25: K-12 Social Studies and Revitalization of Indigenous Languages
- EDUC 460.22: K-12 Mathematics
- EDUC 460.23: K-12 Science

EDUC 525: Ethics and Law in Education [In-Person]

An introduction to the historical genesis and institutional structure of Alberta's system of education; an understanding of its legal underpinnings; an opportunity for dialogue; on current major issues in education; and discussion involving ethical decision-making surrounding educational issues.

EDUC 535: Specialization II [In-Person]

Deepens students' knowledge on enacting pedagogy in each of the specialization in the program and their pedagogical content knowledge in each specialization including further examination of the Alberta Programs of Study; longer term design of learning for deep understanding of learners.

Note: EDUC 535 is a decimalized course, divided by teachable subject area. Summer 2026 courses include:

- EDUC 535.11 combined with 535.19, 535.20, and 535.25: K-12, Elementary, and Secondary Social Studies with Elementary Revitalization of Indigenous Languages
- EDUC 535.03 combined with 535.12 and 535.21: Elementary, Secondary, and K-12 English Language Arts
- EDUC 535.07 combined with EDUC 535.15 and EDUC 535.22: Elementary, Secondary, and K-12 Mathematics
- EDUC 535.09 combined with EDUC 535.17 and EDUC 535.23: Elementary, Secondary, and K-12 Science
- EDUC 535.01 combined with EDUC 535.06 and EDUC 535.24: Early Childhood Education and Elementary Inclusive Education
- EDUC 535.04 combined with EDUC 535.08, EDUC 535.13, and EDUC 535.16: Elementary and Secondary Fine Arts and Elementary and Secondary Physical Education
