Personal Support Worker - Milton, Ontario - CAD$405.00/week Description
Caregiver Opportunity – Milton, Ontario Schedule: Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM (5 hours/visit) Location: Milton, ON (private home)
About the Client: This role supports an elderly male client living in the basement level of his daughter's home in Milton. The client has dementia and recently experienced a TIA (mini-stroke). He is mobile with a cane and is being discharged from hospital. Government-funded PSW care is already in place for personal care tasks — this role is specifically for one-on-one engagement, cognitive stimulation, and supervision during the times his daughter is out with her children.
The client responds much better to caregivers who speak Tagalog — a Tagalog-speaking caregiver is strongly preferred. He can be resistant to requests (e.g. showering) but responds well to gentle redirection and a calm, patient approach — experience with dementia-specific communication strategies is key. Government-funded PSWs arrive around noon for personal care — the caregiver will need to be comfortable working around that schedule. There is a medium-sized dog in the home that barks at the door when visitors arrive but is otherwise calm and does not bother caregivers. Caregivers must be comfortable around dogs. The daughter has a nursing background and is highly knowledgeable — she values a caregiver who is genuinely engaged rather than task-focused.
Responsibilities:
Cognitive engagement — playing memory games, having conversation, and keeping the client mentally stimulated throughout the visit; this is the primary focus of the role Companionship — providing genuine,
attentive company; the client should not be left alone or set up in front of the television and left unattended Outings and light activity — accompanying the client on walks outside or engaging in light activities around the home Supervision and safety — ensuring the client is not left unattended while the family is out; monitoring his wellbeing and flagging any concerns to the daughter
What We're Looking For:
PSW certification or equivalent experience in personal support or companion care Experience working with clients with dementia and/or post-stroke recovery Tagalog-speaking strongly preferred — the client responds significantly better in his first language Skilled in dementia-specific communication and redirection techniques Warm, patient, and genuinely engaging — not task-focused Comfortable around dogs Reliable and consistent — the daughter specifically wants the same caregiver every visit to avoid confusing the client
Schedule: Starting schedule: Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM Exact times may shift slightly once the family's schedule is confirmed. Government PSW care arrives around noon and should not conflict with this role. Pay & Hours CAD$27.00/hr Hourly rate CAD$405.00/week Per week Estimated Earnings Based on 3 day(s)/week Required Days
