Onsite - This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Markham Elevation center on a full‑time basis 5 days a week.
The Software Development & Integration (SDI) Lab houses a variety of physical test benches that simulate vehicle subsystems, enabling engineering teams to develop, test, and validate vehicle electronic control unit (ECU) software.
These benches include ECUs, sensors, actuators, connectors, wiring harnesses, displays and instrumentation tools. They are shared assets used by hundreds of engineers across the organization, both remotely and onsite.
As a
Lab Engineering Specialist
, you will play a key role in building, deploying, maintaining, and monitoring test benches and their supporting infrastructure. You will be responsible for troubleshooting hardware issues, flashing ECUs, and developing tools to support test automation and improve lab efficiency
Key Responsibilities:
Build and deploy component-, subsystem-, and system-level test benches
Troubleshoot and repair bench hardware, wiring, and peripheral test devices
Flash ECUs using Vehicle Software Configuration Management (VeSCoM) tools
Develop and maintain automation script tools to improve testing efficiency
Provide technical support and issue resolution for lab users
Monitor bench health and maximize uptime across all lab assets
Configure and maintain bench test PCs, including deploying Gold Images
Support lab infrastructure reliability, including Blue Flag network and power systems
Assist with lab procurement and inventory management of tools, hardware, and software critical to SDI Lab operations.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering preferred)
Robust hands‑on experience in hardware‑in‑loop test systems
Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics
Proficiency in programming/scripting with Python or other related languages
Experience with automotive Ethernet and CAN tools (e.g. Vehicle Spy, CANoe)
Experience with ECU flashing, wiring harnesses, and instrumentation
Strong problem‑solving ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechatronic systems
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated vehicle experience (e.g. AutoDrive, EcoCAR, Formula SAE)
Experience with vehicle electrical architecture and embedded software
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Working knowledge in Linux‑based PCs and IT networks.
Compensation: The salary range for this role is $81,300 to $122,000. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
