About the role As a key member of the Finance Team, the Finance Business Partner plays a strategic role in supporting organisational performance.
You will provide high-quality financial analysis, strategic advice, and business partnering across Council to enable effective financial management and evidence-based decision making.
You will act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, bridging finance, business operations, and organisational strategy to ensure alignment and strong financial outcomes.

Key responsibilities
Act as the primary finance lead for assigned business units, partnering closely with Heads of Department and Executive Directors
Provide strategic financial advice supporting organisational priorities, long‑term planning, and sustainable financial management
Deliver advanced data‑driven insights, scenario analysis, and forecasting to support strategic and operational decision making
Support operational and strategic decisions by translating financial data into clear, actionable insights
Partner with cost centre managers to strengthen financial capability, drive accountability, and support evidence‑based decision making
Provide challenge, guidance, and coaching to leaders to improve performance and strategic outcomes
Oversee financial performance, budgets, and forecasts for assigned business units
Lead preparation of annual cost centre budgets in collaboration with key stakeholders
Contribute to Annual Plan and Long‑Term Plan processes through strategic financial analysis and insight
Monitor performance against budget and forecast, identifying variances, risks, and corrective actions
Prepare high‑quality financial reports for Council, Executive Leadership Team, and business areas
Prepare journals, accruals, and corrections as part of monthly accounting processes
Deliver monthly reporting, forecasting, variance commentary, and trend analysis
Support financial systems, reporting, and process improvement initiatives
Contribute to continuous improvement of financial processes, reporting frameworks, and internal controls
Complete financial projects and other duties within the scope of the role as required
About you You are a confident and commercially astute finance professional who thrives in a business partnering environment. You enjoy working with senior stakeholders, providing constructive challenge, and turning complex financial information into meaningful insights.
You will bring
Experience in a large or complex organisation with multiple stakeholders
Strong management accounting, financial analysis, and modelling capability
Advanced Excel and spreadsheeting skills
Ability to translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights
Robust communication and relationship‑building skills
High attention to detail, accuracy, and integrity
Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively as part of a team
Confidence to influence, challenge, and support decision‑making
