Overview
Specialist, Industrial Hygiene responsible for providing Occupational Health & Industrial Hygiene expertise at BC Works Aluminum Smelter. This fixed-term, full-time role is based in Kitimat, BC, with relocation support and a start date as soon as possible, ending July 30, 2027. This is a key role supporting health and hygiene initiatives within a collaborative team environment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct Industrial Hygiene surveys to identify, assess, and confirm exposure risks.
- Analyze, interpret, and evaluate exposure data to recommend improvements for health harm prevention.
- Educate, communicate, and engage with HSE groups, site leaders, and operational personnel.
- Develop and implement industrial hygiene sampling plans.
- Perform statistical analysis of exposure data, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and company standards.
- Support administration of databases (e.g., Cority) and uphold internal data quality standards.
- Implement programs for hazardous materials management, confined spaces, and respiratory protection.
- Provide technical expertise to ensure site standards compliance and assist with preparation and planning for HSE audits (internal and external).
- Contribute to building a culture of interdependence within the team.
What You’ll Bring
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
- Post-graduate studies in Industrial Hygiene and related qualification, or an equivalent combination of skills and experience.
- At least 3 years of experience in a health and safety role within an industrial setting, with demonstrated IH program development, monitoring, audits, investigations, risk assessments and inspections.
- Understanding of legislative requirements related to health surveillance and occupational hygiene.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently, with leadership and coaching abilities.
- Data analysis skills (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Cority).
What We Offer
Base salary range for this role is $103,200 - $154,800 CAD, in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health perks, and other discretionary benefits. Salary is based on role, level, and location, with individual pay determined by skills, experience, and impact. More details shared during the hiring process.
