The Opportunity

Lead the planning, design, and delivery of industrial water, wastewater, and water reuse systems for semiconductor manufacturing facilities.

With limited direction, develop and apply advanced treatment and engineering techniques, concepts, and approaches to solve complex engineering problems unique to the semiconductor industry.

Develop and present technical evaluations and recommendations to clients and key stakeholders.

Supervise junior engineers in performing design work.

Perform all aspects of conventional process design engineering analysis. Build and maintain relationships with clients. Participate in writing proposals.

The Team Black & Veatch Process Engineers develop technical solutions that are critical to winning work and drive design deliverables for critical infrastructure projects with community benefits. Our team of over 200 process engineers supports water, industrial, next generation agriculture, LNG, hydrogen, fertilizer, mining, technology/semi-conductor, heavy industry and carbon capture. We align with megatrends such as water scarcity, limited resources, alternative fuels, and energy sustainability to modernize infrastructure, optimize asset use, reduce cost, and mitigate risk.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Production:



Lead process engineering design of water and wastewater treatment and delivery systems.

Support fab expansions, greenfield developments and advanced manufacturing campuses.

Evaluate, select and integrate advanced treatment technologies such as chemical precipitation, biological treatment, membrane treatment, ion exchange, evaporation/crystallization and solids handling.

Prepare a variety of moderately complex process engineering deliverables: PFDs, Water Balances, MSDs, P&IDs;, Equipment Datasheets and Specifications.

Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection. Responsible for detailed design and procurement of water treatment systems, including construction and commissioning support.

Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements.

Plan and conduct independent evaluation, selection and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Review lower level junior engineering work or assignments.

Oversee data collection, assimilation, and management for engineering work; lead smaller production teams; and serve as the responsible charge for a project.

Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology: Serve as a technical specialist and provide consultation and guidance to project teams in a practice area.

Design complete projects of complex scope within an assigned practice area.

Coordinate with the industrial water team and other segments regarding thought leadership and presentations at critical conferences.

Client Focus: Assist with identification of key client interests and drivers on less complex projects; understand client interests through normal client contact and interaction with project leadership. Provide support to business development or pursuit activities, including involvement in pre-positioning meetings, proposal development, client interviews, and identifying compelling sales messages.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to the assigned engineering discipline.





Strong understanding of semiconductor process water and wastewater characteristics, treatment challenges and reliability requirements.

Effective oral and written communications skills, drive for results, quality orientation, priority setting, planning, delegation, directing others, conflict management, informing, dealing with ambiguity, and building effective teams.

Established skills with deep understanding of consulting, project execution, client services, and business development.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program in the home country or the country in which the professional is practicing.

Minimum of 11 years related work experience.

All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected), which may include criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Certifications Professional Engineer registration or licensure, or willingness/ability to pursue such registration.

Work Environment / Physical Demands Typical office environment and construction environment; extreme weather conditions; high noise level; safety hazards (electric currents, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to chemicals); atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation). Activities include sitting, walking, talking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, driving, filing, reaching, stooping, crouching, bending, standing for extended periods, and lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds.
