We are looking for outgoing recreation enthusiasts to join our high‑energy team! Enjoy a creative, energetic and nature‑filled work environment where we encourage attendees to embrace and use the recreation opportunities in Markham.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Communicate and promote recreation programs, services and initiatives.
- Coordinate and participate in safe and developmentally appropriate activities with event attendees.
- Setting up, attending, and tearing down all activations at events across Markham.
- Events are indoor/outdoor and must be able to work in varying weather conditions.
- Ambassadors may be required to stand for long periods of time.
- Work with the Community Outreach Team to maintain marketing and promotional material.
- Assist Community Outreach Team with management of volunteers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Must be available on May 23, June 4, June 11, June 14, June 20, July 1, September 12 and every Wednesday from July 8 to September 2 and additional special events on weekends throughout the summer.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
- Must provide a VSC (Vulnerable Sector Check) in good standing and valid.
- Must be able to travel within Markham to festivals and events.
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds.
- Must provide a valid Standard First Aid & CPR certificate.
- Experience with communications, marketing and/or outreach is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to work and engage with children.
- Demonstrated ability to inspire,
motivate and have passion for interacting with the public to promote recreation services.
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a group setting.
- Demonstrated proactive, self‑starter that can complete projects with minimal supervision.
- Excellent public speaking skills is an asset.
- The ability to communicate in another language is an asset.
