Wood Buffalo Pride is a non‑profit organization committed to raising awareness and promoting inclusion of 2SLGBTQIA+ people in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, located in Treaty 8 Territory. Wood Buffalo Pride coordinates 2SLGBTQIA+ affirming events, support programs, advocates for 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion, and provides training and resources.
Our mission is to advocate for and empower 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and families in Wood Buffalo by fostering inclusion, providing education, and creating safe spaces that support equity, belonging, health, and well‑being.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Two Spirit Coordinator is responsible for leading the engagement, program development, and delivery in rural, Indigenous communities in Wood Buffalo, Treaty 8. This position will represent Wood Buffalo Pride in Indigenous communities throughout Wood Buffalo and will be responsible for fostering and maintaining relationships with the local Indigenous communities and Two Spirit People. The Coordinator is responsible to uplift, promote and raise awareness surrounding Two Spirit Identities. They are responsible for bringing community‑driven programs to the rural communities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure all programming and services are provided in alignment with the organization's Vision, Mission, Values, and Strategic Plan, and ensure that programming is developed and executed following local Indigenous protocols,
and in the spirit of reconciliation.
Leading and assisting with the development, planning, coordinating, and execution of Wood Buffalo Pride’s rural programming including all logistics.
Prepare, plan, and deliver outreach awareness engagement sessions promoting inclusion of 2SLGBTQIA+ people, especially for Two Spirit People.
Connect and communicate with 2SLGBTQIA+ folx in rural communities, including identifying unique individual and/or community needs.
Coordinate with community partners, Elders, local Indigenous nations, and stakeholders to ensure collaboration, inclusion, and alignment with community needs.
Contribute to agency belief of respect for team members as well as members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
Facilitate the 2S & Indigiqueer peer support groups.
Ensure programming is developed and executed following local Indigenous protocols, and in the spirit of reconciliation.
Attend and participate in community events representing Wood Buffalo Pride.
Collect and prepare quantitative and qualitative data within required timelines for assigned programs.
Develop event evaluation tools and gather community feedback to inform future programming.
Support media engagement, photography, and storytelling that reflect the values and mission of the organization.
Other duties as required to meet the needs of the role.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Facilitation experience and/or direct program delivery experience preferred.
Knowledge of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, inclusive practices, and community-based engagement.
Demonstrated ability to work positively with community groups and stakeholders to address emerging social service issues.
Education/experience in Indigenous studies, Indigenous protocols, or experience working with Indigenous communities is considered an asset.
Knowledge of/connection to a rural community is an asset.
Experience with data collection, evaluation, and reporting.
Knowledge of harm reduction, safety planning, and risk management for public events.
Proficiency with office software including: Google Workspace, GoDaddy, Canva, MailChimp, Buffer, etc.
Strong communication skills, including social media, marketing, and promotional content creation. Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, etc.) and digital marketing. Public speaking experience is an asset.
Experience with conflict resolution is considered an asset.
