Under the general direction of the Director, Programming and Promotions, the Manager is responsible for the delivery of marketing and communications for Cambridge Public Library (CPL) and manages the Marketing and Communications department at Queen’s Square. The Manager acts as CPL’s strategic leader in promoting services and fostering exceptional communications strategies for all stakeholders, including both external (public relations, promotional campaigns, supporting advocacy efforts) and internal (effective, clear and timely communication within and among staff).

What You’ll Do

Responsibility for program/service delivery (internal/external), coordination of staff

Manages directly the Marketing and Communications department located at Queen’s Square.

Responsible for managing CPL’s marketing, advertising and social media strategies.

Manages the delivery of the organization’s internal and external marketing and communications programs (digital and print).

Develops annual marketing and social media strategies and marketing plans to meet organizational goals and objectives to increase awareness of our programs and services.

Project management (planning, producing, implementation, monitoring, reporting)

Develops and implements goals, objectives and work standards for the department; assists with the preparation and administration of assigned budget(s).

Develops and implements library's branding efforts, and creates frameworks and communication standards, including style guides, voice and tone guidelines, editorial standards, and workflows.

Responsible for conducting market research; tracks and measures the effectiveness of marketing and communication initiatives and strategies.

Prepares or delegates as appropriate, the scope of work and performs procurement functions for all external graphic design projects; acts as project lead for consultants on marketing and communications projects.

Business planning, develop policies and enterprise management

Responsible for monitoring and tracking the department’s budget.

Develops marketing and communications procedures and ensures that they are understood and followed by the public and employees.

Acts as primary media request liaison; drafts and coordinates media releases, negotiates media partnership agreements, and is primary contract for requests for filming and photography.

Requirement to adapt, modify procedures and programs or inform policy development

Assists the Director, Programing and Promotion with drafting, updating and reviewing various marketing and communication policies.

Assists the Director, Programming and Promotion to develop and execute internal and external critical path activities related to crisis communications.





Staff management (incl. supervision, employee development for direct reports)

Responsible for hiring, training, coaching and performance management of department staff and addressing employee relations matters.

Provides day-to-day guidance, creates and approves schedules, and supervises department staff.

Other duties as required including, but not limited to:

Responsible for addressing inappropriate or disruptive behaviour of members according to the established procedures.

What You Bring To be qualified for and successful in the role, you should have:

Required

– Post‑secondary diploma/degree in Marketing, Media, Communications or similar program

Preferred

– Master’s degree in one of the following areas is considered an asset: Marketing Communications, or Public Relations; or a related field that combines strategic communications and public program knowledge.

– Prior related experience (editorial publication process, graphic design, social media strategies, public communications): Four (4) Years

– Prior supervisory experience: Four (4) Years

– Demonstrated exceptional skills in task‑specific software (Microsoft 365/Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva)

– Experience with budgeting: Three (3) years

– Demonstrated project management skills

Required

– Valid G‑Class Driver’s license and access to vehicle

Preferred

– Crisis communications and public relations experience

Preferred

– Working experience in a public library or public sector

Principles and practices of developing teams, motivating employees and managing in a team environment

Strong public speaking and presentation skills

Exceptional verbal and written communication, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills

Highly‑organized, and able to carry out job functions with flexibility, creativity and initiative

Ability to cope with emergent priorities, exercise discretion and exceptional judgement

Strong analytical skills and a keen attention to detail

Excellent multitasking skills and ability to complete responsibilities on time

Salary Range :

$90,321 - $105,663 per annum (Level 11 in our salary grid).

Hours : This is a full‑time permanent position, 35 hours in a weekly period.

Work Schedule : Typically, Monday – Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

You may be required to work additional hours or to adjust your schedule to fulfil your responsibilities related to events occurring outside of the regular work week.
