Why ENMAX?
We are driven by our purpose of lighting the way to a brighter energy future, a future that includes a workplace where you’ll experience belonging and unlock possibilities.

We offer meaningful opportunities, strong collaboration and a career aligned to what matters to you.

We’re proud of who we are and the work we do to support our communities and customers who depend on us, because at ENMAX, we’re lighting the way together.

The Enterprise Architect provides enterprise-wide strategic architectural leadership by strengthening the connection between business planning and technology strategy ensuring ENMAX’s investments, priorities, and capabilities align to strategic technology direction and deliver meaningful enterprise outcomes.

This role is accountable for shaping ENMAX’s long-term enterprise technology direction and decision-making so that technology choices improve cost efficiency, reduce risk, and keep the enterprise future-ready while avoiding costly complexity and duplication.

The Enterprise Architect operates primarily at the strategic and enterprise level.

Success requires prior, hands-on experience operating as an Enterprise Architect in a complex environment and the ability to partner early with stakeholders to co-create direction, roadmaps, and reusable enterprise guidance before projects and major transformations begin.

While not responsible for managing a team or leading the EA function, Enterprise Architects are hired in a management capacity and provide leadership through cross-functional planning, strategic alignment, and architectural governance.

Major Responsibilities:

Run cost-efficient technology operations

Drive enterprise-wide application and platform rationalization to reduce duplication and unnecessary complexity.

Increase enterprise adoption of strategic platforms by defining clear direction, guardrails, and reuse patterns.

Promote buy-over-build and lifecycle discipline to reduce long-run operating cost.

Partner with Finance/Fin

Ops and IT leaders to improve cost transparency (TCO), cloud/data consumption optimization, and licensing/vendor spend efficiency.

Adapt technology to business change

Define and evolve enterprise architectural direction that enables ENMAX to respond to business, regulatory, and market change with speed and flexibility.

Standardize and reuse common enterprise patterns and capabilities to accelerate delivery and reduce rework across portfolios.

Maintain enterprise-level target-state views and roadmaps that balance near-term needs with long-term maintainability.

Reduce customization and fragmentation by shaping platform-centric decisions and coherent integration approaches.

Minimizing technology-related risks

Ensure enterprise architectures embed security, resilience, and compliance by design and strengthen (not fragment) operational posture.

Influence decisions related to business continuity, disaster recovery, operational readiness, and technology resiliency.

Reduce technology debt and risk through enterprise standards, lifecycle planning, and governance that scales with decision impact.

Partner with Cybersecurity, Risk, Legal, and Audit stakeholders to improve risk visibility, mitigation options, and compliance outcomes.

Enable ENMAX’s strategic objectives

Connect enterprise technology direction to ENMAX strategic priorities by shaping capability-aligned investment options and trade-off decisions.

Engage early in enterprise and business planning cycles to identify opportunities, remove barriers, and reduce downstream rework.

Ensure enterprise roadmaps remain aligned to strategic priorities through governance, monitoring, and decision traceability.

Enable enterprise coherence across portfolios and platforms so strategic initiatives integrate cleanly and avoid isolated solutions.

Embrace and integrate innovative technologies

Evaluate emerging technologies and trends for enterprise fit, value, and readiness balancing innovation with operational and regulatory realities.

Guide disciplined experimentation (pilots/PoCs) with clear success measures and adoption readiness across people, process, and tooling.

Ensure successful innovations are integrated into the enterprise ecosystem (architecture, standards, operations) rather than creating one-off implementations.

Maintain an innovation view/roadmap that aligns experimentation to strategic goals and enterprise outcomes.

Education Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, System Analysis, or equivalent practical experience.

Architecture and governance certifications (e.g., TOGAF, CGEIT, COBIT, ITIL) and Cloud architecture certifications (e.g., Azure Solutions Architect Expert) are considered assets.

Qualifications & Experience:

10+ years of progressive experience across IT and/or digital domains in complex organizations.

5+ years operating explicitly in an Enterprise Architect role, with accountability for enterprise-level technology strategy and direction (not solely solution or domain architecture).

Experience across multiple, diverse technologies, platforms, and processing environments.

Exposure to complex, regulated industries preferably utilities, energy, public sector, or similarly asset-intensive environments.

Demonstrated ability to operate at the enterprise and executive level, influencing decisions beyond individual projects.

Competencies:

Connect, collaborate, and listen: engage early, break down silos, and align teams on outcomes and constraints.

Make it transparent, make it useful: translate architecture into actionable guidance and business-relevant decisions.

Clear, credible, committed: build trust through transparency, evidence-based recommendations, and reliable follow-through.

Stay focused and agile: balance long-term direction with pragmatic, high-leverage interventions.

Invest time where it matters: prioritize enterprise outcomes, decision quality, and the relationships that enable change.
