The Recreation Coordinator assesses, develops and coordinates the delivery of social, recreational, therapeutic programs consistent with the needs, interests and abilities of persons in care. This role upholds the dignity and individuality of each person by recognizing and honoring their unique cultural, spiritual, and psycho-social backgrounds, fostering an inclusive and respectful environment.
Person-and family-centered care (PFCC)
Person-and family-centered care (PFCC) is an approach to care that recognizes the importance of family in a patient’s life and the importance of their active involvement in planning and making decisions on health care, services and treatment, and health system reform. This approach to care provides respectful, compassionate, culturally safe, and responsive care that meets the needs, values, beliefs, and preferences of the patient, their family, and others identified as significant to their life from diverse backgrounds and settings.
Part time position available:
Requires at least 2 days of weekday daytime availability
Location: Markham, Stoufville and Uxbridge (with work available in the surrounding areas of Markham)
Community based position, pay per visit and mileage in-between clients
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct assessments and building programs to reflect patient needs.
- Facilitate individual activation programs
- Plan appropriate programs for patients with dementia in collaboration with their family/caregiver when required
- Utilizes activities that promote cognitive function such as puzzle games, trivia, music therapy, etc.
- Incorporates technological integration when interacting with patients, as appropriate
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others and as part of an inter-disciplinary team.
- Manages assigned budget and resources efficiently, benefiting both the program and patients
- Conduct short surveys on a regular basis at every session to track all clients’ satisfaction, using the data to further improve the program
- Participate in ongoing internal and/or external continuing education activities.
- Adhere to Bayshore Policies and Procedures.
- Participate in quality activities and continuous improvement initiatives in keeping with the company's Quality Management System.
- Participates in proactive Health & Safety activities while performing all duties. Is responsible to notify immediate Supervisor of any Health & Safety risks or concerns.
- Maintains confidentiality of client and corporate information and discusses same only with appropriate Bayshore personnel.
- Complete other tasks as requested
Qualifications: Education Requirements
- Diploma in Recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, or equivalent
- Gentle persuasion or Montessori preferred
- CPR/ First Aid preferred
Other Requirements:
- Personal vehicle and Drivers License
- Exceptional command of the English language as required for documentation and oral communications
- Current criminal reference check and vulnerable sector screen
- Demonstrated basic knowledge of various software programs including word, excel and power point and proficiency with email
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of recreational coordinator/activation experience
- Prior experience conducting assessments and building patient focused programs
Other Skills and Abilities
- Enjoy working with clients of all ages and seniors in particular
- Reliability, time management and the ability to prioritize workload is crucial.
- Creative, energetic and approachable with exceptional interpersonal and decision-making skills
- Ability to handle difficult situations in an objective and consistent manner.
- Commitment to continued learning
