Position Overview
The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, and execution of electrical engineering deliverables for oil and gas projects, including upstream, midstream, and downstream facilities. This role provides technical leadership, ensures compliance with industry standards, and supports protected, reliable, and cost-effective project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical engineering design and execution for capital projects, including greenfield and brownfield developments
- Develop and review electrical system designs, including:
- Power generation and distribution systems
- High, medium, and low voltage systems
- Substations, transformers, switchgear, and MCCs
- Prepare and review key deliverables such as single-line diagrams, load lists, cable schedules, and equipment specifications
- Perform electrical studies including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and protection coordination
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards (e.g., CSA, IEC, IEEE, NEC as applicable)
- Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers
- Interface with multidisciplinary teams including mechanical, process, instrumentation, and civil/structural
- Support procurement activities, including technical bid evaluations and vendor document reviews
- Participate in HAZOPs, design reviews, and risk assessments
- Provide field engineering support during construction, commissioning, and startup
- Troubleshoot electrical issues and support operations as needed
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) designation or eligibility in Alberta
- 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering within the oil and gas industry
- Strong experience with industrial power systems and hazardous area classifications
- Demonstrated experience in project execution from concept through commissioning
- Proficiency with electrical engineering software (e.g., ETAP, SKM, Easy Power)
- Robust understanding of regulatory and safety requirements in oil and gas environments

- Previous experience in a consulting engineering environment
