The Province is seeking qualified lawyers with at least 5 years of experience, particularly from the Cape Breton region. As a presiding justice, you will handle ticket offenses, emergency protection orders, and issue warrants. This part-time role includes shift work and does not provide standard benefits.
Excellent judgment and community awareness are paramount.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adjudicate summary offense tickets under legal provisions
- Hear emergency protection order applications
- Issue search warrants and production orders
- Conduct after-hours judicial interim release hearings
- Maintain integrity and fairness in all decisions
Requirements:
- Active lawyer with a minimum of 5 years practice
- Must be in good standing with the regulatory body
- No unresolved professional complaints or financial claims
- Consent to criminal record check
- Robust community and cultural sensitivity
