Role Overview
Project Manager – Water & Wastewater
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our dynamic civil team with strong experience in the pursuit and delivery of water/wastewater treatment projects. The successful candidate will lead complex projects with a focus on water/wastewater infrastructure, working with multidisciplinary teams to plan and execute projects, manage schedules and budgets, and ensure alignment with safety standards and client objectives.
Responsibilities
- Provide overall contract administration, technical expertise and support for water/wastewater projects, including treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs, conveyance systems, and related civil works.
- Develop and implement the project safety plan for water/wastewater projects, leading by example in health and safety practices.
- Ensure water/wastewater projects are constructed per design, budget, resources, quality and schedule.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of client and regulatory drivers in the water/wastewater sector, and proactively identify value engineering solutions that enhance functionality, performance, cost and schedule outcomes.
- Manage project performance and provide status reports on safety, cost forecasts and schedules, with clear communication tailored to public‑sector and utility stakeholders.
- Negotiate, award and administer subcontracts, major purchase orders and long‑lead process components, and monitor subcontractor performance and compliance with contract requirements.
- Understand, communicate and enforce contract terms, technical specifications, drawings and regulatory obligations, including those specific to water/wastewater treatment, environmental compliance, and commissioning.
- Lead project closeout activities, including system turnover, documentation, training, deficiency resolution, and support of commissioning and start‑up activities for water/wastewater facilities.
- Identify and manage project risks and opportunities, with a strong focus on quality, regulatory approvals, system integration and interface risks typical of water/wastewater projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in engineering, construction management or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive construction experience, with demonstrated leadership on complex infrastructure projects; direct experience delivering water and/or wastewater projects is required.
- Leadership or mentoring experience is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in implementing a strong safety culture through health, safety and environment principles and legislation.
- In‑depth knowledge of the water/wastewater industry, including treatment processes and systems, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation integration, applicable codes, standards, environmental regulations and permitting requirements, and quality management practices.
- Strong planning, organizational and time‑management skills, including the ability to manage project budgets and schedules on water/wastewater projects.
- Ability to identify and manage risks and opportunities specific to water/wastewater construction projects.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and decision‑makers.
- A robust aptitude for adopting new technology.
