Responsibilities
- Work as a member of the Supports for Students team to provide coordinated services with a focus on building educator and program capacity in early learning environments, supporting young children with diverse developmental and educational needs
- Work alongside early learning teams to implement developmentally appropriate, evidence‑based practices for young children with diverse learning needs reflected in Individual Support Plans (ISPs)
- Support the use of play‑based, inclusive, and responsive programming that aligns with early childhood best practices
- Implement supports for children with diverse behavioural and developmental needs through a trauma‑informed and relationship‑based lens
- Support programming for children with developmental delays and diagnoses (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder), focusing on communication, early learning, social interaction, and emotional regulation
- Build the capacity of early learning educators and teams through coaching, collaboration, and ongoing support
- Partner with families to support understanding of child development and to strengthen home–school connections
- Provide in‑class (program‑based) modeling, coaching, and feedback that supports relationship‑based and play‑based practices, inclusive and differentiated strategies, and supports for engagement, self‑regulation, communication, and social development in young children
- Lead and support early learning program development and quality assurance, including:
- Support programs in meeting Alberta Education (AB Ed) requirements, including audits and program reviews
- Support code reviews and compliance with relevant early childhood and education standards
- Assist with the development and implementation of consistent, high‑quality preschool programming across the division
- Plan, facilitate, and support qualified learning opportunities specific to early childhood education and inclusive preschool practices
- Work collaboratively as part of the Supports for Students team to ensure alignment with EIPS and Alberta Education policies, procedures, and legislation,
with a focus on early learning
- Collaborate with other EIPS departments such as Instructional Supports, Student Transportation, and Human Resources to ensure that the needs of young children and families are met effectively
- Collaborate with community partners such as Alberta Health Services (including Speech‑Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, and Mental Health), Family and Community Services, and Children’s Services to support wraparound services for children and families
Education and Experience
- Alberta Permanent Teaching Certificate
- Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience
- Extensive experience and knowledge of literacy at the elementary level through all content areas
- Master’s Degree or current enrollment in a Master’s program is considered an asset
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes
- Strong, independent worker, capable of managing many roles and demands
- Proficient in a variety of technological platforms
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others to support integrated service delivery
