The Department of Family Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Manager, Indigenous Health . This Full‑time Fixed‑Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on grant funding), with a possibility of extension. This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
The primary purpose of the Research Manager, Indigenous Health is to provide research management support to the Principal Investigator and research team, facilitating a fast‑paced national and international program of research with many collaborating partners, including Indigenous communities.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
- Project Coordination
- Coordinate and organise projects, events, and budgets under the oversight of the Principal Investigator
- Support team priorities across a broad spectrum of projects, including award applications and liaison with internal and external officials
- Track project budgets and manage financial processes
- Prepare and execute contracts and MOUs with community partners
- Handle HR tasks such as contract renewals, mentorship, and annual reviews for the research program
- Administration Activities
- Create and distribute agendas and minutes for project meetings
- Maintain and order office supplies necessary for regular business
- Provide reports and budget updates to partner networks, funders, and collaborative partners as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Leadership & People Management
- Manage five direct reports, including hiring, performance reviews, grievances, discipline, learning and development, terminations, and succession planning
- Lead staff to execute their programs
- Delegate tasks and adapt strategies to overcome restrictions and achieve research program goals and objectives
Qualifications / Requirements
- Graduate degree in a health or related field
- Five years of experience in an academic research environment, with experience managing multiple projects and deadlines; exceptional organisational skills required
- Equivalent experience will be considered
- Ability to anticipate needs, plan, organise, coordinate, and perform work with minimal direction and supervision
- Superior interpersonal and communication skills, capable of handling complex, sensitive, and confidential situations
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- In‑depth knowledge of working within the University of Calgary and familiarity with operating procedures preferred
- Strong team player able to operate within a complex, multi‑faced environment
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced workplace with constantly shifting priorities
- Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) and university core business systems such as PeopleSoft
- Experience with qualitative and quantitative data analysis software a plus
- Capacity to work independently while supporting core team priorities and collaborate to set and achieve goals
- Resourceful, cutting-edge, creative, and strategic problem‑solving skills with a high attention to detail
